Western Australia needs skilled and experienced workers to address labor gaps in the state. On 5th July 2021, the government had made the following announcements keeping the needs of growing labor shortages in the state:

  • ·   $5.2 million incentive for businesses to employ 200 new mature age apprentices
  • · $4 million for 12-month extension to Apprentice and Traineeship Re engagement Incentive

In addition to the above, Premier Mark McGowan had also announced a wide range of initiatives to support the economy and skilled labor needs of Western Australia.

To address the skilled worker needs of Western Australian businesses, a number of key measures will soon be implemented:

According to the announcement, the new $5.2 million Jobs and Skills WA Adult Apprentice Employer Incentive (AAEI), will provide financial aid of up to $26,800 to small businesses when they hire a mature age apprentice.

The initiative will be a great help for skilled labor workforce who opted for Australia migration from India, in terms of job opportunities. It will also encourage employers to hire more workers, who otherwise got ignored because of the huge hiring cost involved.

The successful Apprenticeship and Traineeship Re-engagement Incentive will also be extended for a further 12 months, with an additional $4 million investment.

The state government has also extended the the State Nominated Migration Program (SNMP) to ensure temporary workers face no problems while opting for skilled migration pathway to permanent move to Australia.

An additional 134 occupations have also been added to the WA Skilled Migration Occupation List from high demand industries.

With the addition of new occupations, industries will be able to fill job positions for which no local talent is available in the state.

A new partnership between Tourism WA and training council FutureNow will together work to design a wide range of courses and programs for high-school students to prepare them for a promising career in tourism and hospitality.
