Weight Loss Scams: The Warning Signs

by Imaculate Johnson Content Writer
Losing weight and getting into shape is a rage for people around the world and gymnasiums and health centers are packed with people of all ages. Moreover, hundreds of weight loss products, packaged foods, shakes, powders and fruits have emerged as well. Fat loss scams are everywhere and one cannot use internet without stumbling onto one or two of these. Most of these scams make tall claims and offer products will produce miracle cures and instant effects. You should know that there is no such thing as an instant weight loss mechanism and your body needs time to change. Unless, you opt for liposuction or other such procedures, you will not be able to lose weight instantly. As the old saying goes ‘if it is too good to be true, then it probably is’. Consulting a physician and getting professional advice is always recommended.

How Do These Scams Work?

More often that not, celebrities and respected members of the community are used to market these products. In most cases, celebrities have no idea what they are getting into, but some of them maybe a part of the scam itself. These scams usually involve ‘fat busting diets’, ‘revolutionary exercises, ’10 day fat solutions’ creams, pills, gels, and everything else in between. They usually cost quite a bit of money and do not produce anything close to what was promised.

It is surprising that many people are actually attracted to these scams and are willing to pay any amount of money to lose weight loss quickly. Losing weight is not a quick process and it does not, and will not happen over night.

Signs Of Warning

Usually, these fad diet products come with certain warning signals, which can be used to detect them. These signs include the following:

  • Most of these products such as pills, creams, machines, and diet plans do not have any scientific backing. Renowned diets such as GM diet have been proved to be successful, whereas these scams are usually just a hoax. If the advertisement is unable to provide any scientific backing, you can safely ignore it.
  • Most of these are sold through the internet and cannot be found in any normal channel of distribution. It so happens that they provide only a mail order delivery system and there are no physical shops anywhere in the region.
  • Most good diets recommend caution and advise medical supervision, especially in the case of a low calorie plan. However, these scams do not have any such indications.
  • Most of these diets usually require you to sign a long term contract, which will bind you to the company for a while. Moreover, significant advance payments will be required as a guarantee from your side.
  • Diet scams usually involve the terms ‘breakthroughs, revolutionary, brand new’ and so on. However, these advertisements do not reveal what the ‘revolutionary’ breakthrough in science was.
  • These scams usually claim that you do not need any exercise or physical activity. No diet plan works, no matter how ‘revolutionary’ it may be, without an exercise regime to complement it.
  • Most good diet plans provide self reviews and assessments such as the 31 day fat loss cure review, and these usually detail the good and the bad. However, these scams just heap praise on their own greatness.

These scams might not just cost a lot of money but the products may also result in long term health problems. Pills and creams which are not approved can leave your body in tatters, if you are not careful. Moreover, any number of substances which you may be allergic to can be used in them. Always ensure that you opt for a diet plan which is recommended by professionals and protect yourself and your family from getting hurt. Beware, Be Safe!
