Ways to Fix Taskbar Search Problems in Windows 10

There are times when Windows 10 decides to stop searching from the taskbar anymore. Why? Detective work is a difficult task. Or the Cortana got stuck somewhere. Or the index of your PC got all caught up.

There are quite a few solutions to this problem; the best suggestion is to start with the most straightforward solutions and try out the simple yet effective solutions – sequence  wise – as shown in the list below if the problem persists:

•        Restart your PC

•        End Cortana's process

•        Restart Windows Search service

•        Restart Windows Explorer

•        Run Windows troubleshooter to restore indexing services

Restart your PC

Before you begin thinking that how useless this step is, keep in mind that even the most tech proficient folks (under the right conditions) often underestimate the power of this step. If your search problems continue following a restart, kindly move to the next step!

End Cortana's process

Ending the process of Cortana in the Task Manager might just solve the entire problem. After you complete the process, it is going to restart right at the moment automatically.

1.     Right click on the Start button.

2.     Tap on the Task Manager.

3.     Tap the Cortana. (You may have to scroll down a little more to finally find it.)

4.     Tap End Task.

Restart Windows Search service

4.     Tap on the Restart button.

Run Windows troubleshooter to restore indexing services

The much-obliged Windows troubleshooter is likely to do the trick for you.

1.     Tap the Windows and R keys simultaneously on your keyboard to lunch the Run window.

2.     After that, type Control Panel and press Enter on your keyboard.

3.     Tap the Troubleshooting option and go to system and Security.

4.     After that, right click on Search and Indexing option.

5.     Then tap Run as Administrator.

6.     Tap on the Next button. Doing so will run the troubleshooter.

7.    Click the checkbox next to any problems you're encountering. In this case, you should choose Files don't appear in search results.

8.    Tap Next again.

9.    Now the Troubleshooter should detect any problems causing you the taskbar search problems.
