Walk-in Urgent Care Facility – A Boon To The Public

by Patrick Ward Walk in Urgent Care Clinic
When a non life threatening but an urgent illness befalls your loved one, at odd hours, would it not be great if there is a clinic nearby?

Yes, fortunately there are such clinics nearby that can help you out in trying times.

For urgent care, Washington DC has several clinics where you can be seen by an expert physician in less than 30 minutes.

The physicians and staff at such clinics are devoted to providing patients with high quality care on a walk-in basis.

It is no wonder the urgent care industry is thriving. With over 7000 such clinics spread across the United States, episodic care has now become easily accessible to the public.

The common locations where such clinics are available include:
• Free standing buildings
• Shopping centers or strip malls
• Miscellaneous use buildings
• Health professionals’ offices

The good news is Merriam-Webster has added the term “urgent care” to its dictionary this year (2017). It has defined urgent care as a place where care is provided to patients for “illness and injuries which require prompt medical attention but are typically not of such seriousness as to require services of an emergency room”.

Despite the huge benefits urgent care centers provide, healthcare professional are facing certain unique challenges.

As one physician in an urgent care clinic in Washington said, “The biggest challenge is legislation. Regulations are coming in our way to open new centers”.

Yes, legislators must be properly informed as to what the benefits of immediate care are.

Maybe there is lobbying by interested groups. Hospitals and private equity groups are perhaps trying to derail urgent care growth to gain primary care penetration.

But the final say will be of the public. When people want urgent care, Washington DC residents prefer treatment from an ambulatory care facility that is outside of an emergency room.

Why shouldn’t they?

After all, these centers treat a wide spectrum of diseases and perform minor medical procedures. Most of them are open 7 days a week and have diagnostic facilities such as blood tests and x-rays.

“Importantly, all these centers have licensed physicians, which ensures reliable treatment”, says a Washington based homemaker.

Increased access to medical service is one of the key elements of success in healthcare delivery.

Thankfully, outpatient sites such as urgent care centers, retail clinics, and healthcare monitoring applications are providing faster options to get basic medical care.

These kinds of centers have established themselves as the true “one-stop shops” for ambulatory medical care.
