Visual Is The New Viralby William Clinkscales DB Developer/Tech, Affiliate IM
Going viral isn’t exactly what it once was…
Where viral was once an exciting and mysterious phenomenon that came out of nowhere to crash your freaking servers; it has now become just another marketing strategy.
Be that as it may, good content marketing is share-bait, and the really good stuff still goes “viral.” The difference between going viral in 2008 and going “viral” in 2012 is that viral is now a very controlled event. All social media sites are designed to promote trending content, which helps your posts/pics/videos go exponential.
So that means content marketing is way easier than it used to be, right? Maybe not for all — but for marketers, the answer is a big YES.
Getting your content shared is much more formulaic that it used to be, which means it may be slightly less effective, but also way easier.
The trick to getting shares or re-pins is simple. The secret is posting really intriguing images or videos that your visitors love and want to share (they don’t have to be original). That’s pretty much it.
So how can you do this consistently?
1. Do the research – On Facebook, check your Insights to see which of your posts got the most Shares and/or Likes.
On Pinterest, type “http://pinterest.com/source/yoursite’sURLhere.com/” to see what images or videos have been pinned from your site.
Once you’ve got a feel for what types of content your subscribers are liking and sharing, you’ll have a good idea about how to press your audiences buttons.
2. ABP (Always Be Pinning) – Timeline has made Facebook a much better place for posting visual content. As a page manager, it’s your job to make sure you’re consistently posting interesting visual content — taking the winners and pinning them to the top of your Timeline.
3. Load up on Share Bait – If you’re selling beautiful, colorful products, then creating visual content should be rather easy for you. If not, I’ve got one made up word for you: Infographics.
Infographics, even pretty shoddily put-together ones, can make excellent share bait. The same goes for videos. Did you know that you can pin videos on Pinterest?
The best strategy for getting the most out of your content is to post really cool, relevant piece of content to your blog, Facebook page, Pinterest page, etc. If it’s relevant and visually stimulating, users WILL find it.
I discovered, what I believe is the best WP Plugin that emulates Pinterest.
It acks, looks and feels just like pinterest, except it's your blog.
