by Amanda Sutcliffe Travel Deals

The capital of Antalya Province and the largest Turkish city on the coast of the Mediterranean, Antalya is visited by more than 12 million tourists every year from different parts of the world. It has several places that can be visited during your sightseeing tours and gives you the chance to indulge in a variety of outdoor activities. You can also make this city your base for visiting many of the other places in the province of Antalya. While getting around in this part of Turkey during your holiday, you'll get to explore some of its popular attractions.

One of the places you can explore to enjoy cheap holidays to Antalya is the Old Town, which is called 'Kaleici' in the local language. When you are in this neighbourhood, you'll feel as if it was made for enjoying pleasant walks. It is characterised by white-washed Ottoman mansions with red-coloured roofs that are lined along the cobblestone streets. The old quarter is also home to several restaurants, souvenir shops, art galleries, and boutique hotels. Some of the best attractions you'll find while exploring this neighbourhood are the Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque and the main square known as 'Kale Kapisi'.

Don't forget to visit Konyaalti Beach, which is one of the major beaches in this city. It lies to the western side of the city and is a 7-kilometre stretch of fabulous sands that runs from the cliffs to Beydaglari Mountains. This beach also has some excellent features, such as free changing rooms, showers, and patrols by lifeguards. During the summer season, this beach is visited in large numbers by the local as well as foreign tourists. Just behind this beach is a palm-lined promenade lined with restaurants and cafes. If you wish to spend much time on this beach, you can rent a sun-lounger or an umbrella.

Your holiday in this city would also allow you to explore the Antalya Museum, which is one of the largest museums in Turkey. History buffs would have some memorable moments while browsing through the dazzling exhibits that have been displayed in the museum's elegant halls. It is spread over a vast area of 7,000 square metres and exhibits more than 5,000 artworks in magnificent displays. The museum also has more than 25,000 works of art in storage, as they cannot be displayed. You'll get the chance to browse through the history of Pamphylia and Mediterranean regions of the Anatolia province while getting around in this museum.

What gives history buffs another great reason to visit Antalya is the archaeological site of Aspendos, which is located 47 kilometres to the east of the city. It is home to a Roman theatre, which is considered to be the best-preserved ancient theatres in the world. Aspendos was a glorious ancient city, which flourished between the 2nd and 3rd centuries. Most of the ruins that you can see at the current site were built during this period. In recent times, the ancient theatre of Aspendos has been fully restored and can accommodate 15,000 individuals.
