Visit Charming Attractions with Cheap Holidays to Tenerife

by Daisy Wilkinson Travel Guides

Of the seven Canary Islands, Tenerife is the largest and most visited island in the archipelago. It attracts more than 10 million tourists every year from different parts of the world. The island has some gorgeous white-sand beaches and a lively atmosphere, particularly in its southern parts. You can also witness one of the largest carnivals in the world in Tenerife, the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is held in the island's capital. During your time spent on this Canary Island, you'll get to explore more than the beaches and a lively clubbing scene.

Your cheap holidays to Tenerife would allow you to visit some of its popular attractions. Among them is Teide National Park, which is located in the midst of Mount Teide, Spain's highest mountain. This region was accorded the status of a national park in the year 1954. Within the limits of this park is Pico Viejo, the second-highest volcano in the Canary Islands. In recent times, Teide National Park has become one of the most-visited national parks in the world with more than 4 million tourists exploring it every year. You can reach this area by taking any of the morning or afternoon coach trips.

During your Tenerife holidays, you'll also get the opportunity to visit Masca, a small mountain village situated on this Canary Island. It was isolated from the rest of the island until the late 20th century when tourism started growing in this part of the world. The village is located at an altitude of 650 metres in the Macizo de Teno mountains at the head of the Masca Gorge. A hike down the gorge to the beach is a strenuous one and takes about 3 hours each way. However, it is extremely popular with many of the tourists as it gives them the opportunity to enjoy some enchanting views.

Another place worth visiting during your Tenerife holidays is Garachico. It was once the wealthiest town on the island, but a volcanic eruption in the early 18th century destroyed it almost entirely. Today, it is one of the famous day trip destinations and is visited by plenty of tourists to enjoy swimming in its warm rock pools. You can find a mix of renovated as well as old buildings in this town while taking a stroll on its cobblestone streets. The local authorities have made a commendable effort to explain the history of this town by showcasing it on boards in the Spanish, German, and English languages.

The city of La Laguna is yet another fascinating place you must not miss while holidaying on the island. Its historical centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1999. Home to the University of La Laguna, this city is notable for being the first university city in the Canary Islands. One of the most prominent structures in this city is the Cathedral of La Laguna. It was built in 1915 and is dedicated to the Virgin of Los Remedios. This church is also considered to be one of the most important of all churches in the Canary Islands.
