Users can no longer subscribe to HBO via Apple TV app

by Alicia Brown Application Developer

Just as of today, HBO set out to launch its new expanded streaming service: HBO Max, which is a superset of the current HBO Now offering. Do not go for the title of this blog post as it is. You can get the HBO Max application on all Apple devices, but it will come with certain pricing.

Apple TV app first launched last year as a consolidated platform to watch different contents from all third-party service providers at one place without any hassle. Now it seems as if  HBO seems to wind up its partnership with Apple TV app and wish to attract its viewers from its own HBO app.

In the event that you are brought into HBO through Apple TV Channels, you can download the HBO Max and access all the content at no extra fee by means of your Apple ID account. On the off chance that you are coming to HBO Max afresh, you can use Apple In-App Purchase to buy within the HBO Max application. However, if you are a current subscriber, the channel will still be available until further updation to Max-exclusive content.

The HBO Apple TV channel currently includes a carousel advertising the Max service. Tapping on any of the panels guides you to download the HBO Max application.

HBO Max is focused on incorporating with the TV app, with shows showing up in the unified  Apple TV Up Next queue just as Siri universal search. But, channel support isn't in their strategy for now.

The main highlight of Apple TV Channels contrasted with integrated third-party integrations was that the TV application could play that content directly, without expecting to show you out into another party’s application interface. These can include SMS backup & restore app. Content from Apple TV Channels could also be downloaded similarly you download Apple TV+ or iTunes content, and the subscription was easily shared up to six members through Family Sharing.

Unfortunately, network interest in Apple TV Channels gives off an impression of being on the decrease as opposed to ascendency. All the other significant streaming services coming onboard have not consented to being introduced as a Channel, to be specific Disney+, HBO Max, and soon NBC's Peacock. The biggest video streaming service, Netflix, has consistently shunned any significant TV application integration.

As a user, the best experience is accessible when organizations consent to be completely integrated into one UI. But, content organizations are afraid to lose a lump of the client relationship by being associated with something individually like Channels. With dedicated apps, they can keep up with users and differentiate with new highlights, features and various kinds of content.
