Use Solenoid Valve to Manage Your Gas or Fluid Control System

by MarkAllen Allen2013 Article Publishe
Solenoid valve is an effective method of transforming electrical current into pneumatic application. Available in various designs, these electromechanical devices are also a very cost-effective solution for regulating the gas or fluid flow in a pneumatic or hydraulic system.

In any pneumatic or hydraulic system, the handling of gas and fluid control applications is one of the most important functions which are performed with the use valves. Solenoid valve is an electromechanical device which is used for regulating the flow of liquid or gas in a system. The valve is controlled by electric current which is passed through a coil or solenoid. A magnetic filled is produced as the coil is energized and the piston inside the coil is moved consequently. According to the valve design, the movement of piston will lead to either opening or closing of the valve. A constant supply of electrical current is required in order to keep the valve open or close, because as the current supply is stopped, the electromagnetic field disperses causing the valve return to its normal position.

Solenoid valve is comprised of many basic parts including valve body, inlet/outlet port, coil/solenoid, piston/plunger, coil windings, lead wires, spring and orifice. These valves can be applied in fluid power pneumatic and hydraulic systems, to control cylinders, fluid power motors or larger industrial valves.

Types of Solenoid Valve:

Depending on the design, number of ports and functioning of the valves, the solenoid valve may be categorized into following types:

2-Way Valve: It consists of one inlet and one outlet port. It is mainly used in those systems where either allowing or checking of the flow of gas or fluid is needed.

3-Way Valve: It features three pipe connections or ports and two orifices. It is generally used to exert pressure on and dissipate pressure from a valve actuator or a single acting cylinder in an alternate manner.

4-Way Valve: It is comprised of four-five pipe connections or ports. There is one pressure inlet port, two cylinder ports to apply pressure to actuator or double acting cylinder, and 1-2 outlet ports to release pressure from the cylinders.

Pilot-Operated Valve: Equipped with a pilot and bleed orifice, this valve uses line pressure for operation. In de-energised solenoid state the pilot orifice remains closed and pressure is exerted on the top of the piston through the bleed orifice, offering the seating force for tight shutting.

Direct Acting Valve: In this valve the sealing disc is fitted to the piston and the piston opens or shuts off the orifice directly. In a normally open valve, the orifice is open when solenoid is de-energised, and closed when it is energised. In a normally closed valve, the orifice is closed when solenoid is de-energised, and open when it is energised.

SMC India is mainly constituent of a Pneumatics Valves, Solenoid valve, Air Cylinder, Regulator, solenoid valve, Pneumatic regulator, Actuator and Pressure Switch Manufacture.
