URL Structuring

URL (Uniform resource locator) is the location of your page on the web. URL Structuring also termed as Semantic URL means the URL in the form that is understandable and is found to be meaningful to the non-expert or general visitor in the website.

Example of Structures URL:

http://www.yoflowers.com/thanksgiving-flowers/autumnhs-splendor-flowers.html

Here the visitor on the website clearly understand where is he positioned in the website and what is he reading.

Following are some of the qualities of structured URL:

• ·       Easy to remember.

• ·       Possible Manipulated.

• ·       Can be more reliably and durably bookmarked.

• ·       That perfectly indicates navigational and position structure.

• ·       Keywords should be embedded in the URL Names.

• ·       URL’s with duplicated content should be differentiated with canonical URL’s.

• ·       Prefer Static URL’s with Keywords rather than dynamic ones.

• ·       You can use hyphens or underscores for readability and usability.

• ·       Shorter URL’s are preferred not more than five words. Closer to three is always better.

• ·       Avoid numbers and parameters if possible in the URL.
  

•      Complicated URL’s containing parameters causes’ problem for the web crawlers creating high numbers unnecessary duplicated URL’s.
