Do you want to know which are the typical drinks of Sonora? Then we are going to give you a list of the most popular ones in the region and the best thing is that you will be classified by their type.

This means that we will show you which are the most popular beverages classified as soft drinks for that hot season, the traditional hot drinks in cold times and even the Sonoran alcoholic beverages you have to try.

What are the typical drinks in Sonora?

Bebidas típicas de Sonora

Tejuino

Tejuino is a drink that you can find in several states of nortel, for example in Guadalajara and in fact it is so popular that in other states it is also recognized as a typical drink.

This refreshing drink is prepared with corn dough, piloncillo and is fermented for a couple of days and then served with chile, lemon or lemon snow, which gives it a sweet and sour touch and super refreshing.

Tepache

Does that name ring a bell? It really doesn't matter where you live or are on vacation in Mexico, you will probably meet more than one Tepache salesman.

This drink falls into 2 categories, as a refreshing and as an alcoholic, but more the first than the second, because it is prepared from corn or some fermented fruits with a low level of alcohol that is equivalent to 1%.

It is very common that this fruit is the pineapple

Coconut Horchata

Who hasn't tasted a fresh tigernut water? We know that you know it and we know that it is very popular in all Mexico, that's why it couldn't be left out of the list of typical drinks in Sonora.

The Tesgüino

This could be named as the most traditional and representative drink in Sonora, this is because it is a drink that is usually found exclusively here in the state.

It is prepared by fermenting corn in an earthenware pot, where it is then placed in other containers, also made of earthenware, to which water, piloncillo, and fermentation are added for 10 days.

Colonche

This drink, popular, popular if it is, but it is prepared less frequently than the previous ones and this is because it is considered a medicinal drink to cure lung diseases.

Barete

This is a particularly northern drink, which means that you can only find it in the northern states. In spite of being a very popular drink, it is usually found mainly in Sonora and is prepared with pilone, honey and piloncillos diluted in water.

Champurrado Sonorense

Chapurrado is a drink that we can find in other states of Mexico, but what makes it different in the state of Sonora is the preparation.

That is: In Sonora it is prepared with wheat flour and in the other states with corn flour and it is usually very popular in the cold seasons in the state.

Pinole

This is another of Sonora's drinks that can be enjoyed in the various cold seasons in the state and although it is originally prepared with toasted corn flour, the various ethnic groups of Sonora have different ways of preparing it.

Strawberry Atole

Who doesn't know strawberry gruel? It is a very common drink in all of Mexico, but it becomes a popular drink in Sonora in cold times.

Pumpkin Atole

It's probably the first time you've heard this name, but it's a Sinaloan drink prepared by the Yaqui ethnic group.

And as we must imagine this drink is prepared with peeled and cooked pumpkin, nixtamalized dough, water and piloncillo.

Olla Coffee

And of course you can't miss the pot of coffee to close the Sonora hot drink list.

Bacanora

This is a drink that is more than 300 years old and its name is due to the fact that it was created in the municipality of Bacanora, Sonora and is one of the Sonoran alcoholic drinks that you have to try if or when in the state.

Charanda

This alcoholic drink comes from Michoacán and was previously known as "Aguardiente" and is prepared with sugar cane and charanda.

The Charanda is a crop that is usually found on the hill of Michoacan and guess what this hill is called Charanda.

By the way, despite being a drink that started in Michoacan, Sonora, Coahuila and Chihuahua, they adopted it and made it one of their typical and popular drinks.

Lettuce Mezcal

This mezcal is made with wild maguey called lechuguilla and this is where its name comes from.

It is particularly not found in any state of Mexico and this is because this type of agave is found in deserts.

This is what makes it a traditional Sonoran drink

Sotol

Sotol has between 38 and 45 degrees of alcohol and is obtained from the lower or inferior part of the maguey mezcalero.

Thanks to the climate of Sonora, the maguey is a fruit that is easy to obtain and that is why sotol is a traditional drink of the region.

These are only some of the typical drinks that we can find in the state of Sonora and we will be updating to put many more.
