Types of motorcycle jackets

by Andrew Lynn Marketing Manager

Picture this — it’s a Saturday morning, the weather is perfect, my bike has a complete tank of gas and I am ready to hit the streets that are open!

Donned in my boots and coat, I grab my helmet and head out the door.I go to put on my helmet — but — what’s this? There is a huge tear beneath my right arm! It’s time to get a new jacket.

It was some time since I had to purchase a jacket and I had been unsure of the options offered and what could be best suited to my style of riding. I was going to head down to Barnes Harley-Davidson®, but chose to do a bit of research on my very own first… Here’s what I found.

Kinds of Jackets

There are two sorts of materials fabrics and leather when deciding on a bike jacket. Let us take a look at advantages and the characteristics of each style of jacket.

Leather

Style and the look of Harley-Davidson® badass-ery. Leather jackets are usually considered a staple for Harley-Davidson® riders and stone’n’roll fans. Leather jackets are enthusiast a fashion statement and provides other advantages to the rider whilst enjoying the roads.

The largest safety advantage of leather jackets is their abrasion resistance. This implies, if you’re ever in an accident, leather jackets will supply you with the best protection from road rash.

The heavy cloth of a leather coat also gives a few disadvantages to this design. Due to the weight, leather coats can exhaustion the rider faster than a jacket would. The thick material also doesn’t lend itself well to rain or weather conditions. At the sun, black leather will soak up than a salamander from the desert.

Leather doesn’t work well as a waterproof option either. Leather jackets may be treated to be water resistant, so no matter how the moisture will eventually soak through.

Textile

For the fabrics! This jacket material is much more flexible than leather. Due to its fabric jackets have good ventilation and are exceptionally breathable.

For the rainy seasons (so always if you live in Vancouver), cloth coats can also easily be made watertight. As a result of this jackets are a good alternative for rainy conditions as they will keep the water.

Since the fabric of jackets is easier to use, there more features available than leather coats.

The lighter fabric of textile jackets does however make them durable and high-quality leather coats are worn out quicker than by them.

Mesh

The brother to the jacket. Mesh is a great solution for people who love riding in the summer heat.

While mesh coats are the best choice in terms of keeping you cool in summer months, they offer you the smallest amount of protection.

Because of the fabric used in mesh coats, they are the least expensive option in comparison to leather and textile jackets.

3-in-1

Mix up using a jacket! These coats are incredibly versatile since they can be worn as a light coat, a heavy (lined) jackets or a individual vest or sweatshirt.

Their elements give you the option.

Considerations

Body Armour

Body armor helps is quite important and insure your safety in case of a crash. Riding coats have armor built in in some cases you might want to buy this.

Rain

The “Ideal” Fit

Aside from looking good on Instagram models and providing a”classic” style, motorbike jackets are crucial when it comes to riding. When there are all sorts of lists available when it comes to the match of your coat for what you should and should not have, among the most essential facets of locating your coat is relaxation. Discovering the coat that is proper for you is vital, so we’ve come up to help you find the ideal jacket.

Size

Not too tight! There should not be (a lot) of stress put on the seams and zipper(s) of the jacket.

Not overly loose! Put on the coat and sit on bike in ready position and grab fistful of fabric from the chest of the jacket. It’s too loose, if you are in a position to successfully do this.

Finding a fit in-between these two”extremes” is entirely determined by your relaxation and style taste.

Sleeves

Whenever you’re in the riding posture, your wrists should be covered by the coat. When you stand up and rest your arms down at your sides, round your mid palm will be come to by the coat sleeves.

Length

The right coat is going to be flat with your belt when you’re standing. When you are sitting on a bike This way, it will sit in your thighs.
