Structure Demolition

Demolition refers to the dismantling or tearing off of any load-bearing part of a structure or any other man-made structures. The Demolition job is not just confined to the destruction of the concerned structure but it also involves taking of some intelligent and rational decisions regarding the risk assessment in order to ensure that the safety measure is met with at all times.

Facade Retention and Waste Removal

After the health and safety measures, other areas of concern are Facade Retention and waste removal.Only a team of specialist engineers can offer solutions with respect to securing the facade of the site while the demolition work begins.

Another tangent is the removal of the contaminated waste at the demolition sites. This is a huge concern especially for Brownfield sites which are contaminated by the industrial wastes due to the previous developments in such area. Removal of waste is to be carried out carefully with the team members and the waste must be taken over to a licensed waste station that can further look into its disposal process.

Demolition Services

Demolition services generally ranges from High Street Demolition, Office Demolition, Commercial Multi Storey Demolition, Residential Demolition, Facade Retention, Temporary Works, Asbestos Removal and Removal of Contaminated Waste.

Types of Demolition Techniques

Structural demolition is no child's play and therefore needs to be executed by a team of ardent professionals. From a list of demolition techniques mentioned below, the construction engineers are the best ones to think and suggest rationally as to which of the techniques should be employed for demolition purposes by considering a number of factors like the location of the building, the building material, purpose behind the demolition and the ways in which the contaminated waste can be disposed off.

•    Interior Demolition- This technique of structure demolition is usually employed in case of renovation projects. The main idea behind this technique is to safeguard the exteriors of the structure by targeting the interior portions like the removal of walls, pipes, ceilings etc.

•    Selective Demolition- This technique is usually put into use when specific interiors or exteriors of a building are to be removed while providing a shield to the remaining structure and nearby areas.

•     Dismantling/ Deconstruction- Dismantling is a more labour-intensive technique than demolition. This construction technique is to be employed when the components and ingredients are to be preserved for the purpose of recycling, reuse or revitalization.

•    Total Demolition- This technique is exercised when the whole of the structure is to be demolished. The demolition of the entire structure can be carried out by a number of methods which are explained below-

Mechanical Demolition- In this technique, the demolition of the structure is executed by using a number of mechanical equipment and tools including the hydraulic excavators rigged with specialized accessories that have the ability to break the steel and concrete quite effectively. The size of the equipment may vary depending upon the size of the tasks for which they are to be used. Like skid steer loaders and demolition, robots are put to use for carrying out smaller sized tasks.

Implosion- This is the most intense type of demolition techniques which is employed in less than 1% of the demolition projects. In this type, explosives are used to dismantle high structures. The support base of the structures is targeted so that the structure collapses within the footprint or along a prearranged path.

Crane and Wrecking Ball- This method is the oldest of all. This primitive technique of demolition has been replaced by a number of mechanical modes that have come up in all these years to solve issues regarding efficiency and other factors. The modern techniques offer high levels of efficiency and accuracy along with serving the safety measures.
