A
deadbolt is one of the most popular locks that are used in commercial as well
as residential places. It is used on the external doors. These locks need to be
used with a key. There are different types of deadlocks along with subcategories
that can be used in your home environment.
Single cylinder deadbolt
This type is the most commonly
seen among the Deadbolt locks. Mounted inside a door,
it comes with a twisting knob on the inner side and a key cylinder on the
external. The bolt gets positioned on the door’s middle point and inserted into
the frame. On the door’s outside, a key helps to open the bolt, on the inner,
the thumb turn moves the bolt without a key.
Double cylinder deadbolt
The
dual cylinder gets mounted on the inner. The twist knob is absent in the double
cylinder deadbolt as there are key cylinders on both the sides. With this, one
will always require a key to open the door whether from inside or from the
outside. These models do not make use of a thumb turn. This type of lock is
often found on doors that have glass panels. This can prevent possible
intruders as this lock always needs a key to open.
Key-free deadbolt
This
lock gets mounted on the inner side of the door. It used a keypad where one
types in the key pin. This is the best choice for those who do not wish to have
a key. One does not have to worry about the key if it is lost or misplaced.
Though it does have some disadvantages, if you suspect someone has accessed
your secret pin number, then you can change it to a new one. This key-free lock
has gained a good amount of recognition.
Digital deadbolt
This
is a similar version of the key-free deadbolt but requires batteries to operate
as it is a digital or electronic deadbolt lock. This lock embodies the
technology advancements and is mostly used by those who prefer modernized
safety tools and equipments.
Rim deadbolt
This
lock gets bolted inside of the door, the great thing about this lock is that it
auto-locks behind the person each time the door gets closed. This eliminates
the problem of locking manually every time. Though the potential; intruders can
get in the door with force.
Vertical deadbolt
This a lock is bolted inside the door but at the top of the door which makes it
impossible for thieves to open it. The vertical deadbolt is one of the easiest
locks to install but the placement is bulky and inconvenient for many. This
model of deadbolt delivers extra security due to its farther reach.
Mortise deadbolt
This
is one of the classic old-style locks that get positioned in a pocket or
mortise on the edge of a door. This lock is durable and strong, but a large
hole in the frame of the door weakens the structure heavily which is a big the disadvantage of this type of deadbolt.
