Truth or lies about your business, what is your part in it?
by Luis Figueroa Viridian Energy Senior Associate Some people really don't realize that when they lie in order to get a sale, or prospect to their business, they are not only hurting other people, they are also hurting themselves. People that tend to become spammers, or "scammers" in order to make sales, will eventually fall under those categories. Therefore their reputation will fall and will become difficult to recover. We as professionals need to establish some codes of ethics while promoting our businesses. Some codes may include:
- Never lie about your sales.
- Do not assume your business is the best.
- Be sincere with your prospects.
- Respect others opinions and thoughts.
- Hear what other have to offer.
Thank you for reading this article.
God bless us all.
Sincerely,
Luis Figueroa

Viridian Energy Senior AssociateTrue Alice, and they also tend to forget that they could make some bucks at the moment, however if the customers or prospects were introduced to it by lies, he/she will definitely have a loss in the long term. The world is round, and everything you do will get back to you eventually. Jul 24th 2011 13:15 |

Independent Associate with LegalShieldUnfortunately the ethical seem to be the minority these days as more and more people turn to unethical behavior to make a quick buck. In the long run the Ethical professional is building a solid foundation that will not collapse under them. Sooner or later Karma will catch up to the unethical. Jul 24th 2011 13:26 |

Just plain honestyWow! Luis you have just single handedly condemned 99% of internet marketing sites! A prerequisite of internet marketing is that you lie, exagerate, lie, embroider, lie, prevaricate, lie, make fantastic claims and lie. One of the things that has not changed here at Apsense over the years is the inability to routinely discover GENUINE opportunities and information that the person advertising has actually made any money with. Another prerequisite is to be able to throw up as many sites as necessary with enough false identities as necessary and with enough convincing copy as necessary to maintain a web presence and novelty value of each site. Viridian Energy Senior AssociateYou are totally correct Arthur. However I think there are more than just 1% of good marketing companies that are legitimate, and abides by the rules of network marketing. It's true that the vast majority of marketing websites encourage their representatives to "exaggerate" or "Inflate" the truth about their products, sales, and commissions, but those marketers that fall into that category will eventually drop out of their company just because of the fact of life, "Life goes round". Thank you for the comment by the way. Jul 25th 2011 03:31 |

Just plain honestyHi, Luis, it is an unfortunate fact that many traditional companies that have an internet side to their marketing also "prevaricate". Online supermarkets often exclude special offers on products that they sell online. One recent case in Spain showed that a large chain was not giving online buyers the "two for one" offers that personal shoppers were receiving. This "oversight" was only corrected when enough people made official complaints. Jul 27th 2011 02:10 |

Viridian Energy Senior AssociateTrue Arthur, it seems that as always some companies tend to forget who are the ones that makes them breathe (Customers) and as they continue their marketing campaigns, they always tend to forget who are their loyal customers (The ones they already have) and how to keep them happy. Social Media ConsultantPeople (Customers) make businesses work, and when we treat them the wrong way, then we will reap the reward for that. Credibility goes a long way, but the sad thing is, most people today are blinded with the crave for a quick buck and are not willing to do the right thing for themselves and others. Anyone who lies about his/her business to make a sale will have that lie come back to haunt him/her. Thanks for sharing this Luis; this is food for thought. Jul 27th 2011 07:55 |

Viridian Energy Senior AssociateNo thanks to you Otoabasi, is because of people like you that really think about consequences of their actions that we might have a good future as honest marketers. Jul 27th 2011 13:26 |

I agree, completely. When you build a wall of lies it does eventually come crumbling down around you. There are so many scammers around that it isn't even funny. Great post! You made some good points. Having ethics should come automatically but unfortunately many want to make a quick buck and don't care if they ruin their reputation.
