Travel Essentials to Pack for Your Baby's First Trip

by Sonia Singh Hi Everyone, I am Sonia. I love to read and write

Travelling with a new-born or an infant can be a scary prospect but it does not have to be difficult. With a little bit of planning, travel with your little one can be surprisingly easy and even fun.

Here are some essential items that you may want to pack in for your baby’s first trip –

  • Diapers - This has to be on top of your packing list. As a rule of thumb, carry one diaper for each hour that you are en route and also add in a few more.

  • Hypoallergenic baby wipes - These come in handy when you need to wipe off any spills or even clean up your baby.

  • Changing pad - A diaper changing pad comes in handy when surfaces are too dirty to place your baby in.

  • Bibs - Carry at least 2 easily washable silicone bibs.

  • Baby blankets – Baby blankets are great for swaddling your little one and can also come in handy when you breastfeed your baby.

  • Milk bottles and insulated jar – It is best to carry some milk bottles or ready-to-eat formula if breastfeeding may not be possible. It is best to pack these in an insulated jar while getting ready to travel.

  • Moisturizer/cream – While you may not be able to carry a host of baby products, it is important to pack in a certified organic multi-purpose baby cream that can work as a natural moisturizer for baby skin and double up as a diaper rash cream or soothing agent.

  • Sleep sack – A sleep sack is the best travel aid – it keeps the baby warm, comfortable, and cozy.

  • Baby carrier - A baby carrier makes it easy to carry your baby through the course of your travel.

  • Extra clothes – This one hardly needs any explanation.

Tips to travelling with your baby/infant –

  • It is best to avoid traveling with new-born babies. If it is feasible it is best to wait at least 3-4 weeks before you travel. This helps the baby grow and it becomes easier to anticipate his/her needs.

  • Carry your baby in a carrier as far as possible. The baby sleeps best and remains comfortable when held close to you.

  • Most airlines allow parents with infants to opt for priority boarding. Make use of it.

  • Carry two bags and several Ziploc bags to separate the soiled clothes from the fresh baby products.

  • It is best to opt for certified organic baby shampoo and lotion at all times but it becomes absolutely essential when you travel. Pick a product like goodness.me certified organic baby lotion or multi-purpose cream to avoid allergies and irritation.

  • It is best to pack in medicines and drops that may have been recommended for infants with gas or colic. If your child is colicky, it is best to invest in a white noise machine before you travel.

  • Remember to carry pacifiers if your baby is used to one. An older baby may want a favourite soft toy.

Like much of parenting, travelling with your baby gets easier with time and experience. Remember to stay calm and enjoy this phase too.
