Traffic or Business: What Goes First?

by Vitaliy S. internet marketer, interpreter

Of course both Traffic and Business are important and you need both to succeed. However most people who are new to online marketing want to focus on the income/business op. They want to make money NOW. Little time is spent understanding the process which leads to that goal.

Its important to keep in mind, that a business needs a marketing plan (traffic and targeted advertising) plus a solid business plan (conversions and income). Both require focus and understanding. One of the rules that comes here is:

It’s not WHAT you sell… it’s HOW you sell it.

Until you learn how to generate traffic and advertise effectively, it does not matter what you are trying to sell. To succeed, you must FIRST put your efforts (focus) into traffic and advertising. To profit with your advertising, you must control costs and increase revenue.

To illustrate, let's consider an example of classic Traffic Exchanges as this is one of the simpliest ways to generate traffic. As the name implies, you get your site viewed for viewing the other traffic exchange member's site - which constitutes "traffic exchange". Alternative would be buying surf credits via upgrades or directly. Some people are quite sceptical about it. It is a good question then to ask: does it make sense to upgrade in Traffic Exchanges?

Remember, your upgrades in Traffic Exchanges provide MORE traffic and leads, while simultaneously ADDING TO your profit. I myself am upgraded at several TE's and thus spend less time surfing. Now you decide for yourself if you want to spend more money or more time on any given Traffic Exhange.

I wouldn't recommend to rush, but rather gradually become upgraded at some proven TEs (depending on your income stream). At the end you will see that spending on upgrades will bring you much traffic to your sites and eventually sales.

The best strategy would be "Start small. Stay within a budget. Commit to the plan".

Work your system. Reinvest some of your commissions into more upgrades to speed up the cycle of more traffic and more sales to your offer".

Just don’t expect to get to dozens of upgrades and hundreds of TE referrals over night. It takes time and persistence to reap the rewards. (to see some time-proven traffic exchanges, see my site at the bottom of this article).

So, what goes first: Traffic or Business?

If you manage to generate lots of traffic - you can successfully promote ANY business. What happens if you have a good business BUT no traffic? - Right, nothing happens... :)
