Are you wondering about the best things you can do in Athens in September?

Returning to the city's frenzy after a holiday is always awkward. But Athens, in the early days of September, reopens her arms, reminding us that it is our one and only country. This autumn is filled with great concerts, parties and plenty of cinema opportunities. Hostelbay would like to share with you some ideas for going out as well as the best events for the month that brings us back to town. September is an ideal month to go around the streets of the city looking for new arrivals that seem to have provoked the interest of the Athenian audience. Discover the new streets of the center by taking a stroll through the narrow streets of Plaka, Syntagma and Ermou and descending towards Kerameikos. Popular and beloved Greek and foreign artists go to the stage of Technopolis and give us unforgettable moments of musical delights offering to us gracefully some more summer moments even though the season has changed.

These are the events that you do not want to miss.

  • A Love Supreme Live - Takis Paterelis Quartet "A Love Supreme" is the album station in the path of saxophonist John Coltrane. It is a religious anthem, the basis of which is the supreme love for existence. Dive into the world of the most appropriate quartet of Takis Paterelis in the garden of the Athens Concert Hall.

  • 24th Athens International Film Festival Premiere Nights The Athens Premier Nights International Film Festival, the biggest film festival in the city, returns for the 24th year to its established autumn appointment, from 19 to 30 September, transforming the center of Athens into a ten-day film festival, with the most premiered debates of the year, unique tributes, long-awaited musical films, the best harvest of annual documentaries and parallel events such as masterclasses, concerts, parties, special screenings and many other surprises.

  • A Tribute to Leonard Cohen with Nalyssa Green, Sugahspank ! This will be a magical night devoted to Leonard Cohen in the Garden of the Concert Hall. On the day that Leonard Cohen would become 84, three new singers interpret the songs he has stamped with his characteristic heavy voice, accompanied by three outstanding musicians. Nalyssa Green, Sugahspank! and Lou is going to travel us with their singular voices in the wonderful universe of Leonard Cohen.

If you are looking for a hotel room to stay in Athens we suggest that you look around the beautiful neighbourhood of Plaka. Plaka has long been one of the most popular districts to take a walk in the city. Yes, along with you there will naturally be dozens of tourists all trying to capture the beauty and the island feeling of this lovely urban paradise with their photographic lenses. Check out the sandals made of leather and the ancient Greek dresses and accessories in the Hadrian shops; the vibes of this place also favors and puts you in the role of the tourist right away. The folklore scenery is Greece's most exportable tourist product, who can blame them? And it is true, it sells... Tsoliades, Syrtaki and evil eye accessories and plenty of other stuff that reminds as of the ancient Greek civilization will catch your attention.

You might choose Monastiraki station or metro station on the Acropolis to start your walk around Plaka, either way, you will have to go to Adrianou Street (from the side of Plaka, because the road continues to Thiseio) in order to feel the pulse of the heart of Plaka. On your left and right, you will be spoiled by the rack-up commemorative souvenirs that are the quintessence of the highly commercial and most popular corner. As you approach Kydathineon Street, the first small taverns and the few cafes make their presence felt, with the characteristic employees advertising their "goods". As an island postcard, the highly traditional corners from now on are the norm. On the stone steps, the tables from the taverns and the tiny cafes are cramped, while the world enjoys the sun with ouzo and well-cooked appetizers.

Bored of the city life? No worries. If the weather conditions allow it you might as well try a bit of Greek island hopping. After all, September is a great month to go for a swim in Greece. All you have to do is get your Greek ferry tickets and sail for the islands.
