by Mom Busywitty momma that reviews

Is there anything more magical than the feeling that you get on first holding your newborn? No joy, no triumph comes close to the feeling of ecstasy and sheer amazement at the perfection of God’s creation. The travails and discomforts of pregnancy and labour suddenly seem worth it.

A baby is a living, breathing, growing human being. And a baby has some needs that become apparent to you as soon as you become a parent. Through the exhilaration and expectation of becoming a mother, you might miss preparing for the little one, in terms of the essential items that would be required in the first few days and weeks after childbirth.

Being prepared beforehand is always better, as you can then focus on your newborn rather than worry about things that are needed for the baby. Here, we prepare a list of baby essentials that you can stock up on, before your baby arrives. We are focusing on baby essentials for the first 3 months.

What do I need to buy before my baby is born?

The first three months after your newborn arrives are the most hectic. You are recovering from childbirth, your body is recuperating, and your baby needs you all the time. It helps to pre-plan and organize things, so that your baby is comfortable and you are free of anxiety.

If you prefer to be planned and prepared, then here is a list of newborn essentials that your child would need in the first few weeks after birth.

Baby Products for Newborns

We have compiled a pretty exhaustive list of baby essentials for first 3 months:

If you are breastfeeding your baby:

  • Baby bibs for keeping your baby dry while feeding.

  • Breast pump and bottle for storing milk when you are resting.

  • Soft wipes or burp cloths for cleaning baby’s face after feeding

If you are formula feeding:

  • Sterilizer for the bottles

  • Formula Feed Packs

  • A Set of Feeding Bottles

  • Bottle cleaning brush

  • Bibs and burp cloths for cleaning extra milk that has dribbled down.

  • Bottle warmers

For Baby’s Sleeping Time:

  • Crib or cradle for sleeping in

  • Baby mattress and pillow that are firm and fit into the crib

  • Quick drying sheets that can be changed when there is wetting.

  • Natural mosquito repellent, with Citronella and Lemongrass oil that ensures protection from mosquitoes up to four hours.

Baby’s Hygiene needs:

  • Plenty of disposable diapers in newborn size and a little larger size. Your baby will outgrow diapers within days.

  • Cotton Nappies that are washable, and comfortable for all day wear

  • Diaper bag

  • Baby rash cream: Your baby’s diaper area is very tender and delicate. It is also prone to rashes from wet diapers or skin irritations. Diaper rash can make your child very uncomfortable and irritable. Be sure you select a natural diaper rash cream that has zinc oxide for quick relief, and natural oils like Chamomile and Calendula for soothing baby’s skin.

  • Natural Talc free Baby Powder with chamomile and calendula oils to soothe your baby’s delicate skin and keep him fresh.

  • Unscented baby wipes to clean your baby’s diaper area in between nappy changes.

  • Changing mats to lay your little one securely while changing nappies

  • Changing table or cushioned changing pads for placing on dressers or tables.

Bath essentials: You would be needing some essential baby care items as soon as you start bathing your little one. Choose only 100% natural baby care products after reading the labels. Make sure all the baby products are paraben and mineral oil free, toxin free, and clinically tested safe for your baby’s tender skin.

  • A set of soft, organically made Bath Towels, and soft washcloths

  • Natural massage oil that strengthens your baby’s muscles and relaxes her with Sesame, Almond and Avocado oils. Experts believe that a daily oil massage does wonders for moisturizing baby’s skin, and for soothing her.

  • Natural Baby hair oil with the goodness of Amla, Bringhraj and Argan oils that will nourish your child’s gentle scalp without artificial additives. Most off-the-counter hair oils available have parabens and minerals and added fragrances. These irritate your baby’s soft scalp and should be avoided.

  • Natural Baby wash that is clinically tested, soap-free, tear-free, and coconut based, with Chamomile for soothing your baby’s skin.

  • Natural Baby shampoo that is a gentle coconut cleanser with Argan and Moringa oils. This soap free cleanser is made with a no-tear formula so that your baby’s eyes are not irritated in any way.

  • Natural Baby Lotion that is paraben and mineral free, with organic oils and Cocoa and Shea Butters for deep moisturizing your baby’s gentle skin.

Baby clothes:

  • Onesies or baby sleeping suits. Make sure you keep an entire set handy, as your baby would require frequent changes.

  • At least six to seven tops or loose undershirts

  • Six to seven pyjamas

  • Swaddle cloths for wrapping and carrying your baby, and keeping her warm

  • Socks, mittens and caps for protection from cold

  • A couple of rompers

  • A couple of sweaters or loose jackets

Seems like a lot for a newly born baby? Be assured this is the most basic list of essentials.
