Top 5 Self-Defense Tips

by Filip Danic Entrepreneur
Violence is never the answer and a bad way to resolve a situation. But over the course of history we have learned that not everyone will follow this rule and that one day you might find yourself facing an attacker who has no moral values nor does he follow certain ethics and law. In such a situation where you are fighting for your own safety or the safety of your family members it is best you know certain self-defense moves and techniques that you can use. In the best case scenario you will be able to resolve the conflict without anybody getting injured.

Tip 1: Always observe the situation

Never lose sight of the things that are going on around you and make sure you see everything clearly. If you pay attention on the street you will easily notice a potentially dangerous situation and you will be able to quickly get away from it. Building a strong relationship with people and always being surrounded by loyal friends is another useful "weapon" as you are stronger with a group that will do anything to protect its members.

Tip 2: Be Loud and Strong

The first part of self-defense is to avoid dangerous situation as we demonstrated in the paragraph above. If danger does come and you cannot talk your way out of it then you will need to become more aggressive. Experts recommend that you clearly yell a short "BACK OFF" into the attacker's face. This will work on opponents who were looking for an easy target or are afraid that somebody might come to your aid. If it doesn't, it can still give you an element of surprise if you do shock them with your battle cry and boost your adrenaline.

Tip 3: Aim for the Right Body Parts

A fight is usually very short and lightning fast and you will not be able to take in a lot of punches nor will you get the chance to deliver so many. It is best you target any of vital parts from the start:
  • Eyes
  • Nose
  • Neck
  • Knee

Tip 4: Get a Self-Defense Product

There is nothing wrong with having a self-defense product as long as it is legal in your area. In most parts of the USA you will find it that it is legal to have a bottle of pepper spray or a stun gun. When it comes to tasers you will need certain permissions. Study the products carefully and analyse which ones you will use most easily and then buy it! They are quite affordable so they will be worth the investment.

Tip 5: Enroll in a Course or Practice at Home

Enrolling in a street safety course or watching videos at home and practicing is a great idea to improve your technique. It will also teach you how to respond to certain moves that you attacker might perform and how to counter his advance towards you.
