Too Much Traffic is Too Much: 3 Reasons Why

by Christina Mayer Marketing Executive of Visitorz.co.uk

Website marketers enjoy the existence of traffic on their website. It is a website owner’s dream to see his or her analytics jump up through its average rate. It can be delighting to one’s feeling when you can see a lot of engagements going on your website. But as an old saying goes – “too much of anything is bad”, too much traffic is also bad for your website.

Traffic is the blood of your website. Your website couldn’t move freely or even operate with its full potential without any traffic on it. It is obviously true that your viewers are the ones who view, click and purchase products from your website. It is also your viewers which produce sales and profits for you. Any website marketer loves having website traffic that they sometime buy more and more traffic just to suffice their need. Some website owners would buy more than thousands of website viewers, but did you know that the sudden rise of your traffic isn’t good for your website.

Yes, too much traffic is not great for your website. Some of you may think that a little bit too many viewers on some websites won’t actually “hurt” their websites. Little do they know that overflowing traffic may not be good to your website not only internally, but also externally (to Google).

So before you make that purchase (or even that breakthrough campaign, which can lead your traffic twice or thrice the number), let us give you 3 reasons why you shouldn’t get too much traffic.

  • It hurts your website capacity

Let’s face it, every website that we own does have its own limitations. Just because “what you don’t know won’t hurt you” doesn’t mean it can’t really hurt your website. There are multiple websites that suffered greatly from server crashes because of overpopulation of traffic. And just like that, your website could go offline for a very long time, losing a lot of transaction opportunities.

  • Google crawlers don’t like traffic spikes

Yes, even Google don’t want your website to become overcrowded with traffic. What’s worse is that instead of contemplating about how bad your website would’ve suffered from that, Google crawlers would see your website as a NO-GO zone. Google crawlers consider traffic as a great factor when it comes to ranking. They sometimes suspect that sudden traffic spikes are usually made out of “bot traffic”. We all know that Google doesn’t want bots so they would simply give your website a reprimand.

  • Possible increase in bounce rates

More viewers means more chances of bounces, too! Bounce can be acquired when a viewer visits a website, doesn’t make any engagement after arriving, then simply leaves that certain page of the website. Bounce rates are also considered by Google crawlers. The higher the bounce rate of your website, the lesser chances of getting a rank reward from Google.

You see? Those are only some of the reasons why overcrowding your website with traffic is bad.

Traffic isn’t bad for your website. A great wave of traffic isn’t bad either. But always remember, too much traffic can ideally destroy your website to dust. Always take traffic in moderation, and we can ensure you that you’ll have more engagements without worrying about anything at all!
