Tips To Increase The Life Of Your Car Battery

The battery of the car is critical in keeping the car running. Generally, the lifetime of a battery is around three to five years, but this is not a guarantee. There are multiple factors that can reduce the life of the car battery. Lifespan of the battery depends on various factors such as rapid climate changes, journey lengths taken and the car's charging circuit performance. But regardless of these conditions, there are ways by which you can increase the life of your car's battery. Here we have listed 4 tips that will help you extend the life of the car's battery:

1- Clean the Battery Terminals Regularly: It is important that you check the battery connections regularly to ensure that all the connections are free of dirt and grime. With time, a powdery substance develops between the cables and terminals. This can be cleaned by using baking soda. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it to each terminal with the help of a toothbrush. Once that is done, wipe the terminals with a dry and clean cloth. Nowadays, corrosion cleaner sprays and battery terminal cleaning tools are also available in the market that significantly quickens the cleaning process of your Amaron or Exide car battery.

2- Test the Battery Regularly: Testing the car battery is all that takes to prevent it from untimely breakdown. To check that, all you need to do is connect the battery to a multimeter and turn it to the DC volt setting. If the battery reads 12.4 volts, it is a sign that it is charged sufficiently. However, if the battery reads below 12.4 volts, you must recharge or replace it. If you are concerned about the reliability of the battery even after testing with the multimeter, it is advised that you seek professional help. When my car's battery performance was dipping, I took it to the car battery shop near me and got it checked by the experts.

3- Minimize Exposure to Heat: Another way to increase the life of your car battery is by minimizing heat exposure as much as possible. In extreme heat conditions, the rate of water evaporation increases significantly, even if the battery top is sealed. To avoid this situation, it is advised that you park the car in shade or keep the car garaged whenever not in use. You can even look for ways that will insulate the battery of the car from the heat generated within the engine.
