by Anushka Arora Skylark Institute of Travel
After finishing any aviation, travel or tourism management course, you will be giving a lot of job interviews. Cracking any interview is never easy. However, proper preparation and right aptitude can guide you towards success. It can give you the confidence to impress the panel with intelligent answers, and a smile.

Good communication is the key to crack any interview. A part of the personality is how you speak and present yourself. If you have nailed the art of speaking and listening well, half of your job is done. That is why most of the training courses focus on communication skills irrespective of the course chosen.

In this article, we will share the most common questions asked during the interview for an airline ground staff. Along with that, we are also providing the suitable answers. But note that these are not the only ideal answers in any way. More than the right or the wrong, what matters the most is your aptitude. You can be as correct and creative as you want, depending on your personality.

Q 1. Tell us about yourself

Answer tip

This is usually the first and the most common question asked during an interview. It is basically an ice-breaker initiative, aimed at getting you to talk about the topic you are most comfortable with, i.e. yourself. A word of caution, do not reply as if you have memorised all. Be natural. Note that the interviewer is not keen to hear your life story, unless specified. Focus on your educational history, your career path, and the present scenario. Also, remember to talk in a chronological order.

Q 2. Can you work under pressure?

Answer tip

You can reply that you perform better under pressure. You can quote an example wherein you have handled a situation perfectly under trying circumstances. It may match the position you are applying for. You can describe the pressures you normally face, such as heavy workloads, dealing with deadlines, performing well in exam, etc.

Refrain from using an example where you created the pressure yourself. Do not quote any negative instance, or even an incident where in the beginning you handled the task irresponsibly. For instance, performing under pressure to meet a deadline is good but not when you had waited too long to start the project. As a fresher, you may share any instance of your travel & tourism courses.

Answer sample

Pressure gets out the best in me. It acts as a catalyst. When under pressure, I focus all my energies into work. This has many times resulted in excellent results. I thrive under pressure.(Give examples)

Q 3. Why should we hire you?

Answer tip

Answer this question very carefully. It is your chance to stand out from the rest. Focus on the skills you excel in. For example: being a team-player, ability to work under pressure, strong communication skills, strong technical skills, etc. Simply saying that I’m or can be the best Airline Ground Staffer will not work. Tell the interviewer exact reasons why he/she should hire you. Tell him why you would prove to be a good employee. Keep it brief while sharing all requisite points.

Q 4. Do you have any experience in Airline Ground handling?

Answer tip

The answer may vary, depending on whether you area fresher or experience-holder. Talk about the specifics here concerning to the vacancy you are applying for. In case you do not have the desired experience, give a generalised response to areas such as customer service, related airline, or technical experience. Share all that you have learned in your travel training institute, but specific to the role you are applying for.

If the question has been asked by your employer, you can explain your experience in details, if any. Share with him (the employer)your responsibilities/ job areas that fell under you in your previous job. Experienced professionals can talk about the initiatives taken, any relevant modules that have been worked upon. You can also talk about any recognized bestowed upon you by your previous employer.

Answer sample:
