Tips to Boost your CNC Machining Process Effectively

by Norm Grimberg CNC Machining and Machine Shop

The 21st-century machining is heavily ruled by the computer-controlled machining or CNC. Manufacturers love this automated version of traditional machinery which helps them produce millions of precision CNC machining parts without compromising on the quality. Computer-controlled production directly translates to high numbers, less time and high accuracy- something every industry desires.

But, CNC machine is just what it is, a machine. It may cause some errors resulting in unexpected raw material costs, if not used properly. Here are a few tips that can help you get best out of your CNC machine:

 1. Be Prompt while Installing the Machinery

It goes without saying that a special attention needs to paid while installing (or planning to install) new machinery. Know your power needs so things won’t fall apart when you finally start working with the machine. Plan ahead and research the power supply needed for optimal performance.

Ensure your working space is fully equipped with essential machining tidbits so the new installation can run smoothly. Don’t rush into anything; take your time.

2. Be Diverse with Your Product Offerings

While you need not begin your machining practice with this, obtaining and meeting one time projects that are different from your usual offerings can help boost your machine and business alike. You may try out a unique variation on an existing product or come up with an entirely new product, basing on your client requirements.

3. Don’t run Behind your Machine; Let it do its Work

Do you ever sit alongside your Microwave or Washing Machine while it’s at work? For a while maybe, but never for the entire duration. It just sounds absurd and unnecessary.

CNC Machines will run on their own, if properly set-up and equipped.  After all, these machines were created to reduce human labor. So, trust your machine and let it do its task and you do your own.

4. Utilize Machine help when tackling Heavy Materials

While producing quality products are important, ensure your employee’s safety is equally important. Especially if you are a shop that often works with large and heavy materials. Automating the process of lifting and placing them on the CNC machine might reduce the time and cost of production and well as potential injuries while boosting the machine efficiency. You may use machines like cranes for lifting, vacuums for offloading and a conveyor belt for loading.
