Timeshare is an extremely popular choice as a vacation accommodation option in the United States, with approximately 10 million people. According to the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), 83 percent of owners are satisfied with their holiday ownership, and the remaining 17 percent are looking for an idea to sell.

Timeshare resales are popular among travel and adventure enthusiasts for several reasons, buy and sell timeshare reviews at a lower price than buying directly from the developer, no pressure to make an instant purchase,  buyers enjoy many of the same benefits as the original owner, better financing options are available.

The secondary market has been driving timeshare resales for decades, as owners try to get out of their ownership, and savvy buyers get a lot more deals on those timeshares. Owners sell for a number of reasons, whether it is to relieve a financial burden, a change in the family structure, or perhaps the owner is no longer able to travel. Whatever the reason is, a timeshare can be sold on the resale market.

Timeshare Points Programs

Instead of selling the timeshare interests during the week, many developers will choose to sell points that can be exchanged for time ownership in a range of resorts. One of the most important benefits of a points-based system is that an owner can take a vacation more than once a year while paying a one-time maintenance fee. Additionally, timeshare points can be redeemed for more than a stay at the cottage. Many programs allow car rentals, hotels, airline tickets, and even the use of points for cruises.

These timeshare credits are the right way to get the most out of your vacation. Every year the owners are allocated the amount that is usually spent on accommodation in a resort that participates in the program. The price an owner has to pay for a points package is determined by the operator of the program, usually an eminent hospitality company like Wyndham, Marriott. The resale market operates through existing owners, who are willing to sell points previously purchased from the developer. The resale points package is a popular way to get points for a lower, affordable cost.

Marriott Vacation Club Owner Benefits

Marriott vacation points have been a major driving force behind the upgrading in excellence and service at timeshare resorts across the world. Marriott Timeshare Resale is offered in a variety of layouts and lodging types to meet holiday needs — from roomy studios to three-bedroom villas to classy townhomes. On-site amenities often include clubhouses, swimming pools, hot tubs, health clubs, dining options, and spa services, so vacation will be the perfect retreat.

Those wishing to purchase a Marriott timeshare can purchase either Marriott Timeshare Week or a subscription to Marriott Vacation Club Destinations, Marriott's latest Points program.

Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Ownership

The owners of Marriott Vacation Club Destinations purchase a number of destination points based on their holiday needs and then receive the same allocation of points each year. Through the Flexible Destination Program, owners can bank, borrow, and transfer Marriott destination points as needed.

Marriott Points for Timeshare

Marriott Vacation Points, through the Destination Program, are timeshare points that are purchased for holidays within the Marriott timeshare network, as well as short stay and other travel products such as cruises.

Marriott Rewards, often referred to as a point program, is a free program anyone can sign up for and is a loyalty program based on its lodge network.

These two separate programs operated independently of each other and were mainly used by different travelers. However, Marriott has been known to give destination owners a Destination Rewards point as an additional price to purchase destination products through Marriott.
