Things You Can Do While Waiting for Passover 2020

by Kosher River Cruise Kosher Tour Operator
Passover is less than a month away, and the current pandemic has many people, including Jewish families, on edge. Many countries around the world are issuing lockdowns and quarantines to stave off the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, and many businesses, agencies (including some Jewish cruises), and religious communities have decided to postpone public gatherings or have instilled skeleton crews to keep their operations running.

With that said, the emptiness of streets and the dire tone of news broadcasts may dampen the excitement for the upcoming Pesach. However, the story of the Passover is about triumphing against all odds, about how G-d delivered Moses’s people from tribulation. Hope should not falter, especially amongst your friends and family. As long as you stay inside and wash your hands regularly (which is already a very Jewish thing to do), you will be safe. Here’s what you can do while preparing for Passover 2020.

Getting a Haggadah

First thing’s first, the haggadah. This Jewish text facilitates the learning to be had at the Seder table, where the story of the Liberation from Egypt is retold to the children. There are plenty of haggadahs available in the modern day, each with their own comments and designs. For this particular Passover, choose a Haggadah that you think will enrich and help your family during these troubling times, a haggadah with a message that you believe can help your family find strength and resolve.

Practicing your Cooking

Food is always a great way to overcome adversity. While preparing for the Seder feast, you can try practicing making your own kosher cuisine in the meantime. While you might want to reserve the matzot for the actual Seder, you can practice making other delicious Jewish cuisine, from potato kugel to tzimmes.

Remembering the Past and Believing in the Future

Passover is nearly here, and it is good to remember that in spite of fears and doubts, there is a future waiting. There will be open synagogues, dinners with extended families, Jewish heritage tours, and kosher holidays in the future. While staying inside, stay strong, keep faith and believe in the future.
