Ramadan is a month of fasting for Muslims all over the world. In the Islamic calendar, it is the ninth month and commemorates the first revelation of the holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Ramadan is considered as the holy month in Islam and is derived from the Arabic word 'Ramida' or 'ar-Ramad', which literally translates as 'dryness' or 'scorching heat'. Fasting during this month is mandatory for all adult Muslims. According to him, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once asked a woman from Madinah the reason for not performing Hajj. She replied that her husband had gone on pilgrimage with one of their two camels and she could not go with the second one as it was used for the irrigation of their land. Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Umrah in Ramadan is akin to performing the Hajj with me." It is, therefore, the dream of numerous Muslims across the world to accomplish their Umrah in the month of Ramadan.
