there is no such thing as an eco friendly water bottle
by Jiujiu Weixiao various led bulb and tea and furnitureIn the US 50 billion bottles are sold on an annual basis according to a New York Times report from 2008. The total could have gone up or down since that time. I'll get to "why" the number may have changed in a moment.
If all of the bottles sold weighed only 10.9 grams each, that would still be 545 billion grams of Plastic Health medicine bottle ,120g each year. According to a study conducted by NAPCOR, water bottles account for 50% of all of the PET plastic recycled annually.
So it seems that more people are choosing water instead of other beverages. That's good, because it is better for their health. But, it is still not the best choice.
The estimated recycling rate for these bottles is 23.4%. That means that if only the lightest weight bottles were being sold (which is not the case), at least 127.5 billion grams of plastic is going into US landfills every single year.
To me, this means that there is no such thing as an Eco-friendly 300ml PET Bottle
, at least not one that is made of plastic. Plastics were great inventions. They allowed people to have more "things" at a more affordable price.
But, they are not biodegradable. Mountains of them will be here on this planet for an unknown amount of time.
The number sold may have gone up, because of population increases or because advertisers make people think that the new lighter-weight bottles are more environmentally-friendly.
Manufacturers may be selling more, because they insinuate that theirs is better than what comes out of your tap, even though the manufacturers put somebody's tap-water into the so-called eco friendly water bottle.
They may be selling more, because of reports about drugs in public supplies, HDPE Plastic Medicinal Bottle,200g because of cryptosporidium scares, or because perchlorate and other chemicals have been found in public supplies.
On the other hand, they could be selling less, because environmental groups have asked their members to buy less. My family does not buy bottled. Does yours?
At any rate, there is a solution to all of the contaminants that are known to be present in public supplies. The solution is not trusting beverage manufacturers.
