The Ultimate Guide to Champions and Skins on League of Legends

by Alan josef Caceres Affiliate Marketing

In the quest to kick butt on League of Legends and look amazing while doing it, some gamers spend a ton of cheddar on cool, rare and limited skins. Champion skins are an alternate character appearance (skin) and/or color scheme (chroma). Skins feature special artwork which sometimes gives champions unique effects (like sound and voice-overs). Purchase most skins from Riot’s store with Riot Points (RP). Stock up on Influence Points (IP) during sales and access all chroma released for 2000 IP. This guide will help you save money while strategically purchasing the best LoL skins available. Quickly sift through an enormous selection to find the skins that are worth your while – skins that make you want to play LoL just to watch your champion kick ass and take names.

The Best Skins on LoL

Some of the best skins on League are the Ultimate Skins which are available to purchase for 3250 RP. Ultimate skins are new models that feature new forms, textures, splash images, animations, visuals, voice overs and sounds, as well as other bonus content.

The DJ Sona Skin is our pick for one of the best League skins ever. DJ Sona is one of only four available Ultimate Skins. The Sona Skin features three outfit and equipment changes with a different background music that plays in-game which allows your team to choose whether its broadcast in their game or not. DJ Sona is 3250 RP.

The Elementalist Lux is also an Ultimate Skin for 3250 RP. Elemental Lux features a whopping 10 different elemental forms which can occur during battle. Loved by gamers because of its flash and impressive form options, Environmentalist Lux’s forms each have a set of particle effects and textures that represent several magical elements such as the twirling leaves of Nature and flickering flames of Magma.

If you’re looking for a nice skin that’s a bit less pricey, you can’t go wrong with the Pulsefire Caitlyn for 1820 RP. This Legendary is a category of skins that features a new model, texture, splash image, animations, visuals and new voice over and sounds. Caitlyn doesn’t disappoint with an incredible sci-fi inspired outfit, over-sized energy cannon and a variety of custom animations, you’ll find Caitlyn irresistible.

The Epic Arcade Ahri Skin is pretty awesome because it’s only 1350 RP. Epic skins feature a new model, texture, splash image, animations, visual effects and new sounds. The Arcade skins are a blast-from-the-past which takes MOBA’s back to the retro design of characters in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Riot offers several champions with an arcade reimagining and Ahri is arguably the top-contender.  Arcade Ahri has chunky headphones with cat ear speakers, a belt-mounted console which she holds in her hand, rainbow-colored tails, and geeky (but stylish!) purple hair which gives her a really cool effect.

Legacy Skins on LoL

Legacy skins are not the rarest skins on the game, but, they are normally not found in Riot’s store. Buy them in bundles or on sale during Gamescom, Riot’s Anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Christmas and other events. Some Legacy Skins are available through Mystery Gifting and Hextech Crafting (but only those over 520 RP).

Grab These Limited Skins Before They Are Gone!

Limited Edition Skins are removed from Riot’s store after the seasonal or special even is over. Limited skins cannot be Mystery Gifted. Limited Skins go on sale before they are placed in the Legacy Vault where all Legacy skins end up after Riot retires them from the store. Skins in the Legacy Vault are hard to get because the vault only opens during certain occasions.

The following skins will go on sale between October 26th and Nov. 1st. After the sale, they will be vaulted, so grab them before it’s too late!

LoL Skin and Chroma Pricing

The coolest skins can cost a pretty penny. That’s why it’s a good thing that a selection of skins (with the exception of Legendary Skins and Ultimate Skins) goes on sale for a 50 - 75% discount twice a week. Early Sales drop the price of skins down by one tier – these occur 6 months after a new skin has been released. IP sales are held twice a year. IP sales feature Chromas which can be purchased individually for 2000 IP (if the matching champion and/or skin is purchased beforehand). Chroma bundles are offered with RP.
