THE SUPERIORITY OF TUNGSTEN CARBIDE RINGS

by Jems Lee Jems

Rings are not equal – some rings are more superiorto others. This is especially true in the case of tungsten carbide rings. While others like to simply argue their opinions we like to argue with facts and show you why rings made of carbide are better than others. Below we have outlined a good list of facts that will show you why we believe tungsten rings are simply in a league of their own when compared with other rings.

Density & Durability

If you are looking for a ring that is as solid as it looks then you will not find a denser and more durable ring than a ring made of tungsten carbide. According to Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness, gold has a hardness of 2.5, nickel 4, steel 4.5, and tungsten carbide 9. You can’t refute and fight the facts. The only thing that is harder than tungsten carbide is diamond with a hardness factor of 10.

Unique Formulation

Tungsten carbide is a one-of-a-kind material that is also used to make other products apart from the famed wedding bands and engagement rings. Its unique formulation allows it to carry the characteristic shine and brilliance that we associate with tungsten carbide rings. It is this special formulation of tungsten ore with nickel and sinter that indeed enables these tungsten rings to have the durability that we also love. These formulations are not done easily and at times require sophisticated and complex machinery and equipment such as diamond tools that help craft and create the unique designs that are sometimes engraved on the rings.

Sintered

Not all rings are sintered, but tungsten carbide rings can include sinter alongside nickel. These two materials are then alloyed into tungsten ore at elevated temperatures to create uniquely sintered tungsten carbide rings. Sintering helps produce the hardness that allows the ring’s surface to be polished and become scratch resistant. Sintering rings is an art as too much of another metal can significantly alter the composition of the ring. While durability of the ring is important, the ring should not be too hard that it becomes fragile. Yes, it is possible for a ring to become so hard it breaks easily.

Price

The price of rings made of tungsten carbide is on par with rings made of other precious materials. At the price they are going for, tungsten rings are worth every penny because they are real value for money pieces. We don’t like to refer to these rings as items of jewelry but rather like looking at them as the investments that they are. A good tungsten carbide ring will carry you for many years – if not the rest of your life without ever having to be replaced. Hence this initial price is miniscule compared to the value the ring will have as the years go by. Find More
