Thinking about buying a new mobile phone? Shopping might be more difficult than you had imagined. There are so many mobile handsets on shelves to choose from these days, that deciding which is the right one for you can be extremely difficult. Of course, everyone needs something different from a phone, which means that there's no one mobile that's a perfect fit for all people, but there are a couple of things that affect us all.

Because so many of us are dependent on a mobile phone nowadays, the first consideration needs to be performance. Maybe you've given up the expense of running an unnecessary home land line, maybe you need a mobile for professional reasons, but whatever the reason you'll need a good quality and reliable new phone. This means that you'll need to check out performance specs carefully before buying.

The second factor is price. You're looking at spending somewhere around £500 for a new, top of the line device, and in today's economy where many of us are trying to save money that's a big investment. Fortunately, you should only need a new phone around once every two years, but you're still going to want to make sure that you're spending your cash wisely and not wasting money.

If you want to ensure that you're getting good performance for a good price you'll need to compare different models of mobile phone to see which the best deal is. This too can be complicated though. With mobile descriptions containing so much technical jargon they can be both time consuming and difficult for the average shopper to read. That's why we're here to help you today.

We've looked at some of the biggest new releases on the mobile market and put them to the test. By putting models into head to head comparisons we let you easily see which the best phone is. If you're mobile shopping and you want to know that you're making a good decision, keep reading to find out which of today's two models comes out on top.

Introducing the Two Phones...

Samsung are one of the biggest and most popular mobile brands on the market. They're best known for their high end Galaxy series of phones, and many experts considered the Galaxy S III to be the best mobile phone of 2012. The newest high end flagship phone from Samsung is the Galaxy S4, the update to the old S III model, and it's a fantastic device with some true high end specs.

Samsung have released several versions of the S4 though. The Galaxy S4 Zoom is being marketed as a camera variation of the original. It's certainly got great camera specs, but how does the Zoom's other features measure up to the original S4 model?

What You'll Pay...

If you can pay full price up front for your phone then you can get a SIM free hand set that can be used with any mobile operator. The Samsung Galaxy S4 will cost you around £520, whilst the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is a little cheaper at around £470.

Alternatively, you can sign a contract with a mobile operator and avoid having to pay full price up front. The best deal for the regular S4 is with O2 right now, and you'll pay no money down on a £32 a month calling plan. The best deal on the Zoom is with Vodafone, and again you'll pay no money down, this time on a £25 a month plan.

Mobile operator offers change very quickly though. It's always worth checking a tariff comparison site, such as uswitch.com, to make sure that you're getting the lowest prices before you sign a contract. To help with your decision, you can get an overview of the main UK operators here.

What They Share...

These are both touch screen Android phone running the 4.2 Jelly Bean version of the operating system. Both are 4G capable, so you can get faster mobile Internet speeds as long as you have a 4G data plan from your operator.

What the Samsung Galaxy S4 Does Better...

The classic S4 version has a lot of advantages over the Zoom version. The S4 runs a faster processor, coming with a 1900 MHz model rather than the 1500 MHz model on the Zoom, so it's more powerful and more responsive.

The 5 inch screen on the S4 will give you a better viewing experience and easier on screen typing than the 4.3 inch screen on the Zoom. Four times higher screen resolution and seventy per cent more PPI (pixels per inch) also mean that the S4's display is noticeably brighter, better defined and sharper than that on the Zoom.

The S4 has a much higher internal memory capacity than the Zoom. It comes with a 32 GB internal memory versus the 8 GB memory on the Zoom, so you can store four times more music, photos and data on the S4.

Finally, despite having a larger screen the S4 is around forty per cent smaller than the Zoom, and about fifty per cent thinner. It's also lighter, weighing just 130 grams versus the 208 gram Zoom. That means that the S4 is simply more portable and easier to put in your pocket and carry around.

What the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom Does Better...

The only real advantage that the Zoom has over the S4 is its camera. The Zoom has a 16 MP camera which can capture a lot more fine detail than the 13 MP camera on the regular S4, which means that you get better quality pictures. The Zoom does also have a built in FM radio, whilst the regular S4 doesn't.

What's the Best Buy?

Clearly, the regular Galaxy S4 with its larger screen and faster processor, not to mention all that extra memory, is a much better investment than the S4 Zoom.
