by Vardaan Hospital Health & Medical Services
The term abortion has been a subject of a huge debate across the world. Fortunately, terminating an unwanted pregnancy is much easier for women in India who does not want to raise a child due to some personal reasons. It is considered more like a normal and health-related treatment. It is legally allowed to have termination up to 20 weeks of pregnancy in India.

If you are under the age of 18, do not hesitate to talk to your parent or guardian regarding your pregnancy and ensure to visit a gynaecologist a soon as possible. Take someone whom you can trust and follow the instructions provided by the doctor for a safe procedure. If you’re an adult, give a visit to the hospital/clinic by yourself and seek the right advice for the termination.

Methods of Getting an Abortion in India

While considering an abortion, the most important thing to keep in mind is to not to try anything on your own. The clinical procedures are better to be left to the professionals. Gratefully, there are many hospitals developed in India who provide a safe and legal abortion to domestic as well as international patients.

You can opt for any of the following ways to end your pregnancy:

If pregnancy is less than 6 weeks, it can be aborted using the medical procedure with the Mifepristone and Misoprostol, having a high success rate over 95%.

If pregnancy is between 7 to 12 weeks or after, usually a surgical abortion procedure is performed. You can go for surgical abortion in India under either local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia. It is carried out in two ways:

7 to 15 weeks pregnant
Under this stage, vacuum aspiration is generally suggested. The suction tool is used to remove the contents of the uterus. It is a simple and secure method to terminate the childbirth. It is also known as a suction method.

Over 15 weeks pregnant
Under this stage, you will undergo dilation and evacuation procedure. A synthetic dilator is inserted into the cervix which is used to broaden the cervix. Once the cervix widened enough, a medical tube called cannula is used to empty the content from the lining of the cervix. Further, a surgical tool known as a curette is to clean the remaining part around the cervix line of a womb. In the end, a minor suction is done to ensure all the foetal matter is removed successfully.

Don’t get panic with a thought of having an abortion. In India, it is considered as a dignified medical procedure and you will surely get all the support you need throughout. For more information visit here: https://www.vardaan.net/
