The Right Way to Bleach your Carpet White

If you decide to bleach your carpet, you will eliminate its current colour or at least will reduce it to a significant extent. The final result will be not an entirely white carpet, it will still have some shade of a beige or buff. Prepare a bucket and pour 1 tbsp. powdered laundry detergent and add 1 tbsp. soda ash. Finally, pour 5 gallons water. Then mix the substances well and apply the mixture evenly to the rug using a sponge. After that wipe with plain water to rinse. 

 Next task is to pour 2 qt. lukewarm water into a plastic bucket and add 1 tsp. powdered laundry detergent. Also you will need 1/2 cup of soda ash and 6 pints of hydrogen peroxide that should be 3%. Now, you have your bleaching solution ready.  

  At this point you should transfer a portion of the solution to a plastic squirt bottle and start applying to the carpet. Once all carpet fibres are evenly moist, you are ready with this step. Let the carpet dry completely before going to the task.

 Now, you will have to mix 1 cup distilled white vinegar into 1 gallon water. After that dip the bristles of a push broom into the solution and then sweep the carpet with the broom. The vinegar is used to deactivates any lingering bleaching agents. On the other hand, the brushing will perks up the fibres in the rug. 

 At last inspect the carpet to see if the desired effect is obtained. If not, you can repeat the process again. At the end apply fabric dye following the package directions strictly.
