The Right Way of Storing Packaged Drinking Water

by Rythm Vyas BottlingIndia
Contaminated fresh water, when taken internally, can cause many waterborne diseases including diarrhea,  typhoid fever, cholera,  amoebiasis, ascariasis, dysentery, leptospirosis, and even viral infections like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS. Aside from drinking, you can also potentially get infected with these diseases by using contaminated water in preparing food, tooth brushing and even bathing.

But there are various ways you can do to avoid getting infected with these diseases. Do not allow dirty water and unhygienic food to transmit viruses and bacteria into your entire system. These safety tips can help you keep packaged drinking water the right way.

First Thing First
Before storing water, you need to first determine how much water will you need to prepare for the whole family for the entire day. From here you can be able to know how much you will need to pack for the number of days you intend to store it for.

Water Containers

You want to ensure that your family is drinking only potable and clean water, right? So, when storing water, you should also consider the containers you will use. You can use any hygienic water container you have on hand that is enough for the water you will save. You can also buy containers from a packaged drinking water plant. Be sure to use only clean water containers because even if you store clean drinking water it can still be contaminated if you use dirty containers.

Storing Large Quantities

When storing large amounts, it is better to choose steel containers or copper vessels . Unlike plastic containers, they do not tend to contaminate the water even if you will store it for a long time. You can find different sizes of containers at the nearby packaged drinking water plant. Always be sure to keep the lid close.

Storing Small Quantities

If you need to store water in small quantities, it is more convenient to have it kept in a clean bottle. But then, you have to be careful in choosing the right water bottle. Pick the one that is made of steel, glass or food grade plastic. Never go for regular plastic water bottles as they can be toxic and can contaminate the water. However, if you really have to use bottles made of plastic, you should choose the ones that are BPA free and the ones that are specially made for long term storage purposes. Secure the bottle with a cap every time you finish drinking water from it.

Filtering Water

A lot of people believe that having tap water pass through a clean muslin cloth can make it potable and safe for drinking. Although this old filtering process can take away some impurities, it can never make the water entirely safe from contaminants. Viruses, bacteria and other toxic chemicals can never be removed just by passing the water through the cloth. The best thing to do is to boil the water for 2 minutes after this process. Let the water cool down before storing it in the container. Aside from boiling, you can as well use a water purifier or add a drop of liquid bleaching to kill bacteria and viruses.
