The POS Print That Wins Customers!

by Tecronicles .com Technology News Site
ESC POS is the command set that is a standard protocol for the receipt printers being used in point of sales devices all over the world. ESC POS derives its name from Escape Sequence for Point of Sales (ESC POS) as an abbreviation. An Escape sequence is a series of characters, which, when used in a communication protocol or a programming language, gets translated as some other hex code (or character set) or a series or sequence of hex codes (or character sets), instead of representing its own hex code inside a string. POS Printer, use cutting edge technology to generate prints.

Designed to significantly reduce the amount of workload on a processor, while operating in a point of sales scenario, the ESC POS control systems is a very efficient command set that makes it possible to use any peripheral POS receipt printers without modifying the inherent processor codes. This also enables the systems to be highly scalable and flexible for future upgrades.
Any Point of sales or bill computation and generation application (App) developed on any standard operating system (OS) such as Linux, Apple MAC or Windows is able to easily attach itself to and communicate with receipt printers using any communication method, (namely, USB Protocol, Bluetooth Protocol, Wireless, Wired or Serial – RS 232), and be able to generate a proper looking print-out with complete formatting.

In the process of choosing an external receipt printing device, POS application developers universally prefer to go with peripheral devices that are already ESC POS compliant, so that they do not have to deal with the cumbersome and painstaking task of integrating their software application with the proprietary protocols defined by that particular device, that would not be futuristic or scalable. The ESC POS Commands are an all-encompassing command set, including Interface configuration, various kinds of Page setting modes, as well as a detailed list of command functions. Interface configuration includes configuration of, and communication via Serial Interface, Bi-Directional Parallel interface, USB interface, Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN) Interface, Wireless LAN, Power USB and Bluetooth Interfaces. Bluprints.in, is a decent place to buy printers like this

"The Page Settings are done for 2 modes, the standard Mode, and the Page Mode.  In Standard Mode, the printing device feeds the paper every time upon receiving the paper-feed instructions, or general instructions to print. However, while Operating in the Page Mode, the device performs the paper feed or printing instructions on a pre-defined print region all within its memory, and not physically on the paper. Thereafter, upon receiving the ESCFF or the FF command, all the data received is printed in a batch, and the printer recovers to the Standard Mode of Printing. "

In Addition, there are General Commands for general printing and mode setting, including commands for line feed, feed, initialization, horizontal tab, line spacing, selection of character fonts, position alignment, selection of peripheral device, selection of paper out sensor to stop printing, command to specify or cancel double font printing, test print firing, paper cutter firing in case of auto cutter models, setting printer speed, density, raster graphics, etc. There are several commands also for printing QR Codes, barcodes and Images, in addition to Kanji Control Commands for Taiwanese, Chinese and Japanese characters printing.
