The Need For a Good Carpet Cleaning Company in the Film World

by Austin Baines Content Writer

Being in the film industry presents a wide variety of problems on a daily basis. One of the biggest hassles is finding locations. While I hate to admit it, whenever my film crew uses a location, that location will never let a film crew shoot anything there again. Even my wife adamantly refuses to allow any shooting whatsoever in our house. The reason being is simple. Film crews destroy properties. Once again, let me assure you that it is hard to admit this. But the truth is the truth. It’s not like we are out to make a mess. Far from it, the people on my crews are hard-working professionals who are very respectful.

It’s not that we don’t understand the challenges of keeping a location clean either. I can’t tell you why exactly it was that it was. Luckily, with a little help from a Melbourne Carpet Cleaning company, we are getting better at it. One of the golden rules of filming independent films is that you need to find a location that looks real without any art direction or set dressing. While big-time Hollywood productions are able to get away with throwing money at a studio and creating that authentic look from scratch, the only way that us Cleaning guys can make something look realistic is to find a realistic location and shoot there. So, we independent filmmakers need locations that are real.

The next issue has to do with movie productions of all shapes and sizes. There simply needs to be a lot of people on set. While there are examples of some sets utilizing a small crew of say 5 with a few actors, the more likely scenario is to have about a 20-person crew and all the actors for that day, which could be 10 waiting around. Add to all these extras, caterers, and a bunch of random people who show up just to see a movie being shot and the situation is usually that you have way too many people at a location. All these people need to use the bathroom, eat food, and go outside to smoke cigarettes. In the wintertime, floors and carpets get destroyed.  There is just so much foot traffic that the floors don’t stand a chance.

I might start putting the carpet cleaning companies on the call sheet because they are needed in any location that has carpet.  There are a lot of costs that are racked up in the filmmaking world. While the cost of carpet cleaning isn’t free, it can be a lot cheaper than the alternative. The need to return to a location to get what is known as a pick-up is something that you have to budget for. Getting a pickup costs a lot more money when you can’t get back into the location where the scene was shot originally and are forced to find another location that is similar. What’s even worse than that is when you have to reshoot the whole scene because you have lost access to the original location.
