The Latest Facebook Scam

by Don Dousharm Entrepreneur, Publisher
I am sure that you have probably heard by now that there is a Facebook scam going around that is spreading like crazy.

I have been doing a bit of research on this and here are the results

Title:

"BREAKING NEWS - Leaked Video of Casey Anthony CONFESSING to Lawyer."

Steps taken by many Facebook users:

1.If you click on the Facebook link, you will be directed to enter your age or to verify that you are over 13.

2. Once you verify your age, you must click a button labeled, “Jaa”, (Finnish for Share) I have also seen this link in other scams. I can only assume that this is the meaning of the word used.

3. If you click that button you grant permission for a malware to spam your whole Facebook network.

4. Once clicked I have read that you are directed to a youtube look alike site. This is not youtube but an online survey scam that builds revenue for those who scammed you to begin with.

People, don't click on this link. I have news for you, there is no confession by Casey Anthony and that is a fact. So many people have fallen for this already and it is time to educate yourself. The fact that so many people follow this through is a testament to the carelessness of acting before you think.

Casey Anthony is a 25 year old girl who was accused of killing her daughter who was 2 years old at the time. The prosecution put together a case where she used chloroform and duct taped her daughters mouth and nose. Kept her in the trunk of her car for a month and put her in a plastic bag and through her in a swamp. She was acquitted of all 3 murder charges and now will be released from prison on the 17th of July. Most people are up in arms about the case because they say she is guilty... Big, big case here in the states

Oh, and just to add to this the trial was televised through the whole United States. If you are interested in reading about the case just do a search for Casey Anthony and you will find it all over the net.

I heard about the case from a co-worker who was up in arms. I do not watch television so had no idea who it was either. I just feel so horrible for the poor little child that had to suffer before reaching God's lap. At least now she is safe from any further harm. amen, amen.

Thank you all for your comments. Look any social network is a target for malware, fishing and any of the little nasties out there. I take a special interest in this stuff as I was hacked last year and I am still recovering from the damage done. The minute I hear of this kind of program I go into a search frenzy and learn all I can. Then I try to alert as many of my aquaintences so they can check out what is going on. I don't wish what happened to me on anyone. Please be smart about what you do on the internet. Use some common sense and take a look at your security settings. Learn what each one does. If you are not sure ask someone.

I totally agree Don, I've been hit a few times myself for either clicking on things or attachments in emails. I was a newbie but it wreaked havoc with my hard drive and I'm extra careful now. AVG malware and virus protection works pretty good for me but I still keep a close eye out.

@ bj & Paula- Thanks for pointing out to me about other countries not knowing everything that goes on in the United States. I tend to think sometimes that if it happens here then the whole world knows about it. This is simply not true so I will remember that when posting an article and give enough background for all... @ Paul- Good lesson for us all. @ Patricia- Yep, I would let your niece know to watch for this kind of stuff and ask her not to send potential scams like that. @ Malok- I remember your article. I understand how you feel because after these things happen you kind of feel violated. One thing though you learn to be very cautious from there on. It's a hard but good lesson to learn but a good one! @ letsGOsocial- I think you meant to say 750 Million but that is a draw and for those people that keep saying this will never happen to me.... Well, You get the picture!!!

@Don your scam alert as I stated was welcome. It was the comment of Paul's [quote] I was only the trial of the century[/unquote] as if we are idiots if we are not up on the USA current events. @Paul It is your business when you assume that all members live in the USA.

Thank you for researching this. I've already seen it on my FB Wall and kind of figured it was some sort of hoax, so I just deleted the post. I put this link on my FB status as well... :)

@Bill (bj) I'm sure Paul wasn't being sarcastic or insinuating those who do not live in the US are idiots. :)
