The Importance of Proper Ventilation in Air Conditioning

by GDY Airtech Enterprises Consultant
Commercial HVAC contractors worth their salt know how vital ventilation is for a building's air conditioning system. In many cases, it can be a large deciding factor in a business's success, especially where customer comfort is concerned.

Ventilation helps maintain air quality, humidity, air pressure, and temperature. It keeps the indoor air circulating properly. It stops indoor air from becoming stagnant by bringing in fresh new air from outside. Of course, this will first be filtered and processed by the HVAC system.

This process might seem straightforward enough at a glance.
It is simple—install the system properly, and maintain it regularly. Doing so will have long-lasting effects.

Ventilation Helps Keep Inhabitants Healthy and Comfortable

Air entering the building will already have gone through air filters by the time they are circulating the rooms. But ventilation systems help further prevent any more air pollutants from contaminating the area. This is because they do not allow the air to stay in one place for too long.

This also means that any unpleasant odors that may arise will not linger in a room for prolonged periods of time.

It Protects Your Building From Damage

Having the right amount of airflow in the building also prevents moisture from collecting. Too much moisture build-up inside the building can compromise its structural integrity. Especially if many parts of the building are wooden.

Another side effect of moisture is the creation of mold. This not only causes further damage to a building but will also be unhealthy for anyone inside. Mold exposure can lead to illnesses such as fevers, respiratory disorders, and even immune system problems.

What Happens If A Building Has Poor Ventilation?

Improper ventilation leads to improper air flow. In turn, this results in several effects:

Poor oxygen supply but high carbon dioxide levels
Increased amount of contaminants in the air
More instances of respiratory diseases and other airborne illnesses
Allergies, nausea, headaches, and fatigue

Proper Ventilation Is Always A Must

Indeed, ventilation is an important aspect of heating and air conditioning systems. Aside from keeping users comfortable, it will improve their overall health and productivity.

Building owners will always benefit from having a well planned and installed ventilation system. Ductworks and exhaust systems should be the right size for the building. The system should be set in place by professional contractors. It is also crucial that they are maintained and cleaned regularly to ensure that they function in peak condition.  While it may be a hefty investment, it is one that pays off well in the long run.
