The word Taal has been coined from the “Ta” of “Taandava” and “La” of “Laasya”

Delhi being the highest seat of the Mughal Emperors, having great wealth and musicians of the caliber of Amir khusro and MiyanTansen, became an attraction for musicians from all over India. At about this time, khayal singing started gaining in popularity as Dhrupad-Dhamaar style srarted declining. This accompaniment for Khayal singing was done using the Tabla, because of its softer tones.
