by Shantanu C. Mages Institute - Game Designing, Graphic Designin
Creating fun games is not very difficult and there are plenty of courses and content available which will give you the knowledge and tips to make one. Suggestions like new ideas, be creative, play test the game etc are known to one and all and these tips are vital to a character game designer as well. While designing games there are many mistakes that you will make and these would help you get better. It is human to make mistakes, and in fact, this is helpful also to get better at your work. However, there are some mistakes which can be avoided and some of them are:

The NPCs Should Repeat Information

The non-player character is an essential part of most of the character game design. If you have designed a game with a NPC which needs to repeat important information, you must ensure that they repeat it periodically. This is imperative as mostly it has been noticed that players do not take screen caps or notes while playing and then they tend to miss this information. The only time this can be avoided is that the screen of your game has a record or diary of events which the player can refer to anytime they want. The whole idea is to make it simple and not unsatisfying for the player, as that is when they will enjoy the game.

Unnecessary Quick Time Events

Whenever you are designing a game which has quick time events or cutscenes, you must ensure that they fit in properly and feel appropriate and a part of the game. They should enhance the experience of the player rather than having them crib about it. Sometimes, players do like to watch a cut scene if it entertainment or it is a reward to clear a level of the game. The problem arises when this is not done in a proper manner because in that case instead of enjoying it, they just want it to stop it.

Make the Game Unfun or Unfair

If while designing the game, you have added a character which in comparison to the others, makes the game difficult then it becomes unfair and unfun for the players. They feel they have wasted their time reaching this stage of the game if it appears halfway. A good game designer must always keep in mind that each class can be crossed easily without frustrating the player.

Text Disappears Fast

If there is a text which is important to the game and is related to the story, then it should stay on the screen. It is very irritating for a player if the text goes away before they read it. The text on the screen should ideally come with a no time limit.

Elements that are Input Disrupting

It is not always the case that a game will become terrible if you mess with the player’s inputs. But this is something that is better avoided in your character game design as this might lead to frustration and annoyance.
