The Beauty of Indian Cricket Fans

“Sachin Tendulkar is the God of cricket” . If there wasn’t a game called cricket , there wouldn’t have been a Sachin Tendulkar . If there weren’t fans , there wouldn’t have been a game called cricket , because any game is incomplete without fans . they are the one’s who can make or break the game.

I started writing this piece due to 2 reasons . 1)Lot of overseas people have misconceptions about Indians and the way they go about their game . 2) I always wanted to write one article on the beauty of Indian cricket fans and dedicate it to my fellow Indian cricket lovers. 

I would like to focus mainly on Indian fans . Indian cricket team- a team that is followed by millions of people. wow , just imagine the amount of pressure every cricketer must be undergoing when on the field. No person in a family can be same. similarly, In a country of Millions, not everyone can behave the same.

Team India fans are the most religious followers of the game.. even if team India plays in antartica you will find team India fans cheering for the team. Some may call us hypocrite but we as fans are immensly emotional and passionate. where in the world can you see an entire crowd cheering for the opposition team just because their favourite son Ganguly was dropped controversially from one game.

To say that the Indian cricket fans are the craziest of all cricket fans would be an understatement. When India is playing a match, whole country comes to a standstill.

 

The roads are deserted , people surrounding the nearby shops . Most commonly used line all over India : “score kya hai”. such is the craze for cricket in this country. Not much has changed since . Indians are still hooked to their favourite game, which is both a passion and an addiction.

And the most common complaint given by the overseas people is, “Indians don’t support good cricket, they are not as knowledgable as the fans of other teams, crowd becomes pin drop silent when the opposition is on the top ” well, they are Indian fans, they are in the stadium to support their team, not the opposition team . from when did cheering your home team became a crime? Be Practical guys , we all love Movies , Don’t we give special importance to our favourite actor’s movie? Do you attend first day first show of an unknown actor’s movie ? NO, you wont. similarly, we are Indian supporters, so obviously we would love to see our team on the top.

And few other people say “The Indians can’t take failures , they support only during the good times . well, let me ask one question to those who ask this question . Do any country fans show such love in good times? NO. we Indians are known for showing everything in excess , be it failure or success. Indians fans give a warm welcome to our players , who come out victorious from an ICC tourney by arranging a big parade on an Open top bus on the roads of India, And once they fail , they have to enter their own house through the back doors. Indians are sentimentalists , we take everything to our heart. we bulid temples for the players, worshipping the posters of players are quite common . this is where things start to go seriously wrong . Once they fail , effigies of the players are burnt on the streets, they wont allow players to live a peaceful life . all these are done because we believe everything in excess.

Australian cricketer named David warner (yes the same guy who was suspended for man Handling English cricketer Joe root ) Once quoted saying: “Indians just love Sachin, not Test cricket “. well , that may be true to some extent , the unconditional love we show towards our players is just inparallel.

Though people from other countries pass many negative comments on Indians and Indian fans , One thing i always felt proud being an Indian fan , that is “Unity” . Yes , Game of cricket has helped to united our Indian brothers . we know many people in India who wish to divide us on the basis of caste, creed or religion, for their petty benefits. But a sport can unite people, In India, that sport is Cricket , which united people irrespective of caste, religion or creed. That’s such an awesome feeling when Zaheer Khan gets rid of Graeme smith, And Hindu and Muslim giving High five’s to each other in a gesture to celebrate the fall of wicket.

Cricket can really improve the relations between two countries . India and Pakistan are considered to be enemies in political context , Though the India-Pakistan games are treated like a war between the two countries , the players from both the teams share a good rappot . Foe example , There was a banner in the crowd during one of the Indo-pak game.

“Rivals for the game, brothers for life!”.

The above phrase shows how cricket has improved the relations between two countries.

One can only say that passion and excitement of Indian cricket fans is unbeatable . Nothing unites the people of India like cricket does . And no matter what people say , As an Indian , Be Proud that , we have the most engaging and Passionate fans in the world . JAI HIND!
