by John Smith Sales
When you are planning you vacation, you may be blissfully unaware of prying eyes trying to locate one single breach that would give them easy access to your valuables in your absence. Here are 10 things you can prevent:

1. Unlocked doors: Leaving doors unlocked is more common than you may think, and is one of the most frequent give always to petty thieves who are on the look-out for an easy job.

2. Leave ladders in yard: Again, this is a common mistake which can be easily being prevented. Make sure that you remove the ladders from your yards as soon as you are finished with your work, or else someone else will finish off with your valuables.

3. Buy cheap alarm systems: Did we hear DIY alarm systems? The thieves must be having a good laugh somewhere. If you are really concerned about your stuff, then you need to invest in some good quality alarms. For instance, you can get ADT alarms that have been protecting thousands of UK homes for more than 50 years now.

4. Disable alarms: You might feel that disabling alarms when you go out for just a little while may do no harm, but that is risky because you might just forget to switch it on. Moreover, don’t assume that just because you are home, intruders will not try anything. It is a better idea to keep the alarm on at all times, otherwise it will fail to serve you when you need it most.

5. Leave dark spaces: Dark spaces are an invitation to thugs. When you are out of town, you can let timed lights illuminate your house for specific periods. It will not raise suspicion about the home being alone.

6. Advertise an unattended home: Dark house, unattended hedges, piled up newspapers at the doorstep are all giving signs that the owners are away and it is a good time to intrude. Put your mail and newspaper deliveries on hold, asks someone to trim your greens if you are on a long holiday, and as we said above, timed lighting can be put to good use.

7. Put costly covers in trash: When you are getting costly stuff in your home, you must do away with the packaging in a discrete manner. You can perhaps shred it and then dispose it with other trash so that it doesn't come to notice.

8. Display your home on social media: Many of us facilitate intruders by displaying the inside of our homes in pictures and announcing that we will be leaving our homes for a good whole week. It doesn’t need mention how unsafe the Internet is. Avoid such display of personal information as much as you can.

9. Leave hidden keys: If you think putting away keys under the welcome mat or behind the flower vase is an ingenious idea, you are quite mistaken. Members of the family should have duplicate keys, the keys shouldn’t be left lying around for anyone to use.

10. Keep valuables on display: Keep your windows closed most of the time, if they make your valuables visible from outside. Or else, keep them away from the line of vision from your windows.
