Tata Salt Battles Fake News to Reclaim its Position as a Premier Indian Salt Brand

by Swapnil Jukunte Search Engine Marketing and Optimization Company

Tata Salt is a premier edible salt brand in India for several decades now, and their reliability has never been questioned. Even with such a rich heritage, Tata Salt recently got dragged into a controversial matter. They faced the accusation of using cyanide in food-grade salt, which apparently, is unsafe for consumption. This false information has been all over the internet which led to consumers doubting the quality of their product, which affected the brand’s image.

Later, this information turned out to be false. Cyanide is different from Potassium ferrocyanide or PFC which is an essential element in the manufacturing of edible salts and is permissible in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the European Union, the United States of America and India.

This is not the first time that false information has been published about a reliable brand. There have been several other incidents as well.

However, this doubt was directed to one of the superior salt brands in India, Tata Salt. It was later discovered that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), authorised under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has permitted the use of PFC as an additive in salts, but its level is restricted.

After further investigation, it was clarified that the level of PFC in Tata Salt was admissibly below the permitted limit. This compound of ferrocyanide prevents the accumulation of powdered ingredients in salt.

Before FSSAI clarified this false information and revealed the truth, fake news was already in the air, causing massive confusion and doubt among consumers. Thus, the FSSAI published updated reports on their official Twitter account. The FSSAI’s prompt response to this incident played a significant role in clearing the all-encompassing confusion.

After several days of research and evidence production, Tata Salt has regained its reputation as a reputed brand that made no mistake in their production procedure. The conclusion is that their food-grade salt is entirely safe to consume daily.
