Taking Care of Pets While You're Away on a Kosher Cruise

by Kosher River Cruise Kosher Tour Operator
Parting is such sweet sorrow. Pets are just the best of friends one could have, and if you can't bring them with you everywhere, that sure can be a disappointment. If you plan to go on a kosher tour and you have to leave your pet at home, you need to make arrangements for their comfort and sustenance before you go.

To be anxious when you part ways with your pet is completely normal. There are times when you must leave for a few days without them.

Dogs

Here are three things you need to consider to minimize that separation anxiety when you travel.

Prepare Yourself and Your Pets

A couple of weeks before the trip, give you and your pet time to adjust by spending time more time apart from each other than usual. Give it an hour or two every day before you head back home from work. Your pets will gradually adjust to their alone time and will be less anxious when you finally leave for several days.

If you have a lot of pets, take time to know what their particular needs are. Do they tend to fight when you're not around? Who has the most peculiar habits? You don't want your pets to be caught off-guard and be very anxious when you don't give them time to get used to being alone.

Sitters VS Kennels

When leaving your pets to travel, you have two basic options on who to delegate the caretaking tasks to. Choosing whether you need to board your pet in a kennel or hiring a pet sitter depends on their needs and your preferences.

If putting your pet in another home for the time being sounds like a scary idea to you, consider hiring a pet sitter. Often times, a friend or a neighbor will do the trick, but if you want to ensure the quality of care, a pet sitter seems like the best option.

There are instances, however, where kennels are a good fit. If you're not comfortable letting other people into your home while you're away, board your pet in a kennel. Boarding them in a kennel is also perfect if your pet follows a strict meal and medicine schedule. If your pet is highly sociable and non-aggressive, kennels also allow them to interact with others.

A good tip when finding a good kennel is to show up to the place unannounced. Check out the facilities, talk to the people who will take care of your pets for the time being.

Leave Specific Instructions

As soon as you decide on where your pet will be staying while you travel, give them a list of specific instructions. This may contain feeding and medication schedules, their mannerisms, and any habits--both the strange and the downright bad. Remember to leave your number and your trusted veterinarian's number and office hours as well.

When sitters know what to do, you can ensure the quality of the care your pets are going to get. Pet sitters can also serve as house-sitters. Make sure they know how to get around the home and lay down the standard operating procedures in case of an emergency. Your pets only deserve the best care when you're away.

Pets are great when it comes to being adaptable. If you want them to be more comfortable, leave an old shirt that they could sniff whenever they need a familiar smell. Parting doesn't have to be hard if you prepared before traveling. Your pet will be comfortable and you'll enjoy your trip even more. Surely, they will be excited to hear about what happened in your kosher tour.
