Symptoms Of Colon Cancer In Men

by Akash Sharma Akash Sharma
Colorectal cancer, often referred to as colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths across the world. According to a survey, every one in 22 men develops colon cancer, which equates to 4.49 percent.

Many symptoms indicate colon cancer but that does not necessarily mean the person is suffering from this particular disease. Other diseases may share a lot of similar symptoms. Hence, reputed doctors like Sidharth Sahni always recommend visiting a specialist whenever one of these symptoms arise.

Changes in Bowel Habits

A change in the bowel habits is normal when a person is suffering from an upset stomach or any minor infection. Issues like constipation, diarrhoea are common. However, if they do not get resolved within a few days, an expert’s attention is necessary.

In case such issues last more than a few days, it is a sign of some underlying health issue and should be treated.

Cramps and Bloating

Occasional cramps or bloating are common complaints in colorectal patients. However, these digestive issues may occur due to an upset stomach, gas, or eating certain foods as well. Consecutively, people ignore them.

If anyone is experiencing frequent, unexplained cramps and bloating for a prolonged period of time, colon cancer is a possibility that should be treated.

Constant Feeling that the Bowels are not Empty

Colon cancer often creates a blockage in the colon. It makes you feel as if you can never empty your bowels. This causes an annoying sensation and makes people visit the washroom multiple times.

Blood in the Stool

The sight of blood in stool is often frightening. Either streaks of fresh red blood are visible, or the whole stool has a darker appearance. Although there are many possibilities besides cancer, Dr. Sidharth Sahni says it is always important to ask for an expert’s advice in situations like these.

Weight Loss

Almost all types of cancer share this symptom. People suffering from it, lose a significant amount of weight very fast. Such unexplained drastic weight loss needs a doctor’s attention.

Weight loss occurs mainly because the cancer cells consume more of the body's energy. Also, the constant battle between the immune system and cancer cells takes up a lot of energy.

Shortness of Breath

As we are already aware that cancer makes the body weal, shortness of breath is inevitable. When fatigue sets in people feel very exhausted and even the smallest work requires a lot of effort. Even walking a short distance or laughing hard can make a person feel short of breath.
