SURROGACY TYPES - OVERVIEW

by Shivani Sachdev Founder & Director

There are many different processes out there that help to overcome the fertility problems and conceive a baby. Some of them are very old and others are new and technologically advanced. Surrogacy is one of the oldest treatments that come with a very high success rate and low cost. You can visit the fertility clinics in Delhi to find out the surrogacy cost.

While many other processes have only one type, surrogacy has two types such as gestational and traditional. They are very different from each other and contain different rules. So, knowing them is very important before taking the surrogacy process. Here are the details about different types of surrogacy process that you need to know.

Gestational Surrogacy

Gestational Surrogacy is the most common surrogacy process. Most people choose this process for being a parent as it helps to keep out of any legal challenges. In this type, a woman carries an egg of the intended mother which is mixed with either the intended father’s sperm or donor sperm. In this process, the genetic DNA of the surrogate mother does not pass into the child, which prevents any relationship with the surrogate mother after the treatment. It is the most helpful process of surrogacy that helps same-sex couples to be biological parents of the child. As the child is not related to the surrogate mother, it eliminates the risk of any legal conflict in the future. You can contact Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour to know more about gestational surrogacy.

Traditional Surrogacy

This is the least chosen method among the types of surrogacy. Many couples avoid this type as it comes with the risk of legal claims in the future. But this is very helpful for single fathers to become parents. As the name suggests, this type of surrogacy is very old, and it was available before the technology advancement. This type is very rarely used as it makes the surrogate mother genetically related to the child. In this process, the sperm of the intender father or donor is mixed with the egg of the surrogate mother. It comes with the risk for both the intended parent and surrogate mother. Parents can leave the mother and child responsible for medical costs. Also, surrogate mothers can claim the children as their own in the future making legal conflict with parents.

Both of the types can contain different arrangements and some of the common cones are Altruistic and Independent surrogacy.

Altruistic Surrogacy

When a woman agrees to become surrogate without any cost, it is known to be Altruistic surrogacy. Mostly Altruistic surrogates help someone close such as family, friends and do the whole process without any compensation.

Independent Surrogacy

This is more like traditional surrogacy as it comes with the risk of legal conflict. The independent surrogates work without any agency. While it is good to leave the agency out of the process to reduce costs, they also hold good knowledge about the surrogacy process. You can visit the SCI IVF Centre to know more about this process.

These are the types of surrogacy that you need to know before planning the treatment.
