Summer Exchange program as a Turning Point

by Kristen White Blogger
Making a career often gets difficult in today’s times, considering the number of available options. This is why many countries of the world provide a gap year, which is a period of a few months between two education levels. During this time, many individuals look to participant in exchange programs, where they get to learn something new in a different country. Not many parents and school authorities wanted the children to participate in such programs a few years back, but they see the value in them today.

Studying abroad during the gap year

Practical skills clearly need to be given more weightage than is being given, which has made students want to know how to study abroad in high school. Due to the growing requirement, several reputed educational institutions have prepared and implemented guidelines for such programs. Students not only gain a lot of knowledge that helps to clear and broaden their minds, but they also become better human beings. One can get to know more about them through websites and also enroll online.

Student exchange program types

Academic institutes around the world offer two major options for exchange programs:

  1. Rotary Youth Exchange - There are many youth camps which provide contact for Youth Exchange Program across a number of countries in the world. The list of countries includes Canada, US, India, Brazil, and Mexico, where the focus is on a particular cultural field. Some of them also act as low cost scholarship programs that can support students as they go about learning from new cultures. For those who do not want to be a part of high school abroad for a whole year, they have the option to choose short Rotary Exchange programs. The time period of such programs is from a few weeks to a few months.
  2. Family-to-family - Let us assume that there are two families in different countries in which the children have enrolled for the same program, participate in this program. They can permit their son or daughter to be hosted with the other family, in different countries. Each student visits the other participant country and the other family hosts him or her for 3-4 weeks. After this, the same process is repeated for the other family. It leads to tremendous understanding of culture, sensibilities, and the humanity in the world, which are priceless for a young child.

Clearing the mind

The exchange program is not meant to be stressful for any student. Instead, it is supposed to help him or her make the best decision about the future career, whether at the end of school or college. It also helps to increase knowledge about various cultural aspects, such as:

  • Food
  • Languages
  • Dresses
  • Way of living

Apart from the above, the child also understands the importance of money and learns how to manage his or her expenses better. The best way to grow and understand life and people best is to come out of one’s comfort zone and learn to face life’s challenges. It helps the student make better decisions in life.
