Striking the perfect balance between vintage and modern in this Westlake Residence

A timeless, vintage decor theme with tasteful modern twists is, in my humble opinion, the best interior design trend of this year. Why? Because I feel that only the perfect blend of modern and vintage design can lend an interior space a natural, comfortable elegance. 

A perfect blend of modern and vintage design is what me and my team, here at Spaces Designed, aimed to achieve with the Westlake Residence project. I must say, it required a good bit of time and effort to arrive at the perfect mix of old and new, but it paid off and the end result was simply phenomenal!

This project was to be done in a basement – an area that was once a children’s playroom, so we tried to keep that playfulness of the space intact. To make it the ultimate adult entertainment space, we added a glass gym room and a vintage pool table here. The pool table also works as an accent piece, softening the bold edges and industrial look of the otherwise contemporary home decor in Austin. Don’t fail to notice the color palette: the rustic tones and the brilliant pops of warm red really do make a dynamic combination!

The kitchen/wine tasting room is one place where the blend of old and new reaches an absolute perfection! Embracing contrasting styles, we went for a beautiful, vintage engraved dining table and ultramodern chairs to lend that “urban-retro” character to space. There’s also a distinctive Chinese Armoire, which takes the aesthetic value of the space to a whole another level. Everything else has been kept very neutral and minimal so that the timeless Armoire and the trendy hand-made wallpaper behind it could be the focal point of this space.

For the Westlake Residence project, we worked around the concept of keeping timeless pieces introducing modern twists to make the interior space look and feel more intimate.
