Spamming & Scamming, Really? Is It An Issue?

by Don Dousharm Electronic Publication Marketing

This is a personal view and I have no way of predicting the future. With that said, this is what I believe.

I personally have been in and out of marketing on the internet since around 1995 or 1996 and I have seen every kind of scam and spam there is to see. I like many here have had the opportunity to watch the next generation of communication take its shape and form the next best thing since the telephone.

What I see in APSense is a very large group of very professional marketers that I am very proud to have the chance to get to know. I have never seen the likes of people at APSense that genuinely care and take the young and inexperienced under their wing and shape them into a new generation of seasoned marketers and professionals.

What I am seeing here is a pattern. As the new copy and paste addicts are finding out with every post they make is a series of negative comments educating them and definitely sending a message that this will simply not make it here. With every post they are learning that copy & paste is a waste of time. It is unproductive and whatever plan they have for making some kind of profit from it is a complete failure.

As far as the scammers are concerned, I have heard that APSense has become a playground for them to thrive on. I DON’T BELIEVE THIS FOR ONE SECOND! What I believe is that with the popularity of the “Looked Up To Marketer”, (and I don’t mean this as an insult in any way shape or form) there is a truth.  The truth is that at APSense, for every scammer there is a whole new class of people who really want to make their living from the vast market called the internet that soon anybody who wants to think of APSense as a target to spam or scam will regret it.

I can only say one thing about the quality of APSense Senior Members. “Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery” and that my friends is the single most endearing quality that you have passed down and will keep on passing along to those who venture here.

This is the single most reason that keeps me here and in my opinion that is the best reason of all. With all the change I still believe that APSense is the best Business Social Network around and with this said I believe it can only get better.

Some people believe that new members who send an unsolicited link once or twice is a spammer and that's that. I agree that some might not be interested in learning to do better, but after a time, they leave, since they don't get attention. The more we send firm but constructive comments, the better APSense will become.

Very positive and uplifting article. Every social site is going to have "spammers", "scammers" and "trolls". Good Admins can keep such negative Internet marketers to a minimum but it is futile to eliminate them completely. Even God allows the "wheat and the tares" to grow up together until the End. By positively putting forth legtimate and legal programs and tactfully pointing out the illegal and false hope programs, APSense can be a good example of an ethical but yet vibrant social site for both "newbie" and veteran Internet marketers, as I see it.

Yup but who is going to send the firm and constructive comments? As for the spammers, most of them do not read comments. Some of them may leave but there are new ones joining everyday so the spam and scam will remain an issue.

Well said Roosevelt! I needed to start giving myself a positive affirmation as I have been in the shade as of late and this is where my thoughts took me today. Topped you for your very positive comment..

Paula, It doesn't matter anyway because as long as I stay positive I will be ok with it and so will many others. Thanks for commenting.

Here's a tactic to consider. Send firm and constructive comments privately. Doing that in public, on comments seen by everyone, just attracts more attention. Well stated Roosevelt. It looks like we will have to do a little sifting of our own to separate the good seed from the weeds. I guess, in the end, we all need to do our own Due Diligence, and by really networking with trusted friends and contacts at sites like APSense we will be able to do that better.

Sorry Paula and Philippe I will not let this become a personal battle ground. I deleted those two comments because they served no constructive purpose here. Thanks for your comment Neville.

It's not a problem. It just didn't relate to what my point is about.

Nice article, Don. I wholeheartedly agree with you on the overall quality and sincerity of the majority of APSense members. Of course you will always find a few people that try to take advantage of the members of a highly successful social networking site like this one by spamming or trying to scam them. But those are few and far between and they eventually get the idea that it would be best to go somewhere else with their foolishness. I have been a member of several other similar sites in the past, but I truely believe that APSense has them all beat. The people here truely want to help their fellow members and want them to be successful. This is a great place for someone just starting out in the IM business to find mentors and partners. I've been a member for several years now and have seen a lot of changes to APSense (most of which I believe have been very positive). Whenever I meet someone new to IM, APSense is the first site I always recommend.

Thank you Barry. I was always told that if you ever want to be successful than you have to surround yourself with successful people. The same holds true with being positive. That is how a site like this stays alive.

Very good post Don. Well written and thought out.

Many of these spammers post 6-10 blogs (poorly written ones at that) or even comments on pages. Then they open another account and do another half a dozen or so - The purpose as far as I can see is they are skimming to get higher rankings in Google, Bing, Yahoo by using a Successful site as APSense. Then they get their self a .org or some such domain with same name or an underscore somewhere so they end up shuffled in the mix on top ranking pages.
It is maddening for Site owner's large and small. One admin certainly cannot keep up with the droves who practice this type of Marketing.

APSense has so many of the pages at the beginning that I couldn't find an example. But I have seen that practice from my own site. (nope not going to plug it, not what this is about)

Thanks Pattyde, Yes and I am sure that is in part what sparks the changes in google adsense because most of those blogs are nothing but copy and paste plr and some adsense ads tucked in between. They are put in tactfully too as sometimes it's hard to tell where a paragraph ends and the ad begins. These are things that need to be preached so many here can understand why they do this and learn to ignore them and delete the comments. It's a very big help. Thank you

Don, as always you speak with a clear picture of what you have in mind. I one of those new Im people that you talk about. Internet Marketing is a new beast for me, I have learned a lot here at APSense and wish to continue doing so for a long time. Good Information as always, Thank you

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Don; I like your positive attitude, some people don’t realize that when you stay positive you have the ability to influence people to excel and your comments are steering me in that direction. @ Neville, I definitely have to agree with you about sending firm and constructive criticism privately. @ Philippe as a newcomer, that’s why I haven’t really posted anything yet because I want to make sure I am marketing effectively so I am trying to learn as much as I possibly can.
