Social media has existed ever since the advent of human society and product marketing quest of people. However, there has been a remarkable leap and transformation in the way social media and marketing with social media is accomplished and executed. The world has gone digital and same is the case with business and marketing. Targeting potential customers and prospects with various online social media platforms available these days is commonly known as Social Media and Social Media Marketing. Not only this technique of marketing is less-cumbersome and convenient but is also targeted and result-oriented.


Some important Social Media Platforms

Though, there are many social media platforms available these days that marketer and entrepreneurs can use still not all are equally important. Asides, the nature of your business and the customer segment you target also determines a lot about which one should you opt for. For instance if popularity and penetration is concerned Facebook tops the list but if direct interaction is concerned Quora is the best. Similarly, if you are a B2B marketer and in the service sector you need to target LinkedIn more than any other social media marketing platform. So, the nature and taste of your business matters a lot when it comes to choosing the best social media platform.

However, there are many myths associated with social media and brand promotion with social media these days. In the next part of this article we are going to highlight those myths that are common to entrepreneur and marketers. So, let’s start one by one…..

Myth Number 1: Social Media Marketing needs a lot of technical expertise

Obviously, social media is a technical thing and people need to have a basic understanding of computer and digital technologies nonetheless, it is not something that a non-tech guy can’t manage and handle it effectively. The only thing required is that you should have a computer and a broadband connection. It is not mandatory to know how an engine works to drive the car all you need to know is that it requires petrol or diesel for the car to run. Same is the case here. Asides, every platform has come up with tutorial and tech-support to users that you can read prior to plunging into it.

Myth Number2: My company is too small to use Social Media

This is completely an unacceptable opinion that a newbie or start-up company can’t use social media tools and techniques to promote their brands and products. You can use social media tools to its fullest extent irrespective of the size and strength of your business. The thing that matters it what is your approach towards marketing the product and service. If your product or service has a demand in the market you can use social media tools to its fullest extent.

Myth Number 3: Social Media Campaign will not affect my bottom line

Sales and leads are your bottom line. Each activity that brings in customers and help you close a deal is worth considering. In this digital age the purchasing decision customers are fairly affected by social media. People ask their friends, peers and colleagues on social media prior to purchasing a product. Each time a customer use a product or service they share it on their Facebook update or Google+ account. If your product offers some value to customers they would be willing to share about it on their social media platforms which will ultimately leads to increase sales and leads.

Myth Number 4: Social Media marketing is time consuming and too-complicated

Every business needs certain amount of devotion and dedication. You can throw a website on the web and wait for the cash to flow in. Same is the case here. Just like any marketing campaign needs certain level of preparedness and investment same is the case here. If someone thinks that social media marketing needs a huge amount of time then it contradictory to the real situation. Infect, social media cut-shot the amount of time and effort required to execute a marketing campaign.

Myth Number 5: Nobody cares about what I’d have to say on social media channels

The above mentioned statement is true up-to some extent. But it is, when you talk only about yourself and don’t bother about what others have to say. If you are comfortable listening to your customers and prospects they will definitely listen to you. Try to solve the queries of your customers and offer some value with your social networking platforms. If your product has a demand and customer are keen to know about the product your social media channel could be a great place to convene and congregate.
